Chief Financial Officer
FP Canadian Newspapers Limited Partnership is a publicly traded company which owns and publishes the Winnipeg Free Press and the Brandon Sun as well as smaller weekly community newspapers.
Both the Winnipeg Free Press and the Brandon Sun enjoy a history that is closely tied to the communities that they serve.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Overall responsibility for financial reporting of Winnipeg Free Press, Brandon Sun, Derksen Printers, Canstar Community News Limited and any other property under the direction of FPLP.
- Overall responsibility of business systems and support of the operations.
- Provide forward thought in the form of analysis, forecast or risk assessment. Evaluate options and convey such to management.
- Overall responsibility of credit policies and collections of receivables.
- Responsible for various corporate governance mandates including serving as member of corporate disclosure committee.
- Manage the yearend audit within the time frames.
- Ensure preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Overall responsibility for risk management and interaction with insurance brokers and agents.
- Overall responsible for preparation of budgets and maintenance of annual budget process.
- Management of financial processes and financial reporting including cash management, accounts payable and cash flow forecasting.
- Assist owners with due diligence on acquisition matters where applicable.
- Assist management team in collective agreement negotiations.
- Oversee capital spending approval process.
- Participate and lead key decisions as a member of the senior management team.
- Responsibility for planning and developing annual revenue projections, implementing budgets, controlling costs and adherence to the sound control over financial reporting.
- Managing and developing finance staff.
- Improve, implement and manage financial controls to maximize accounting accuracy and efficiency.
- Representing the Company in the business community and among charitable and philanthropic organizations as needed.
- Development of strategic initiatives for the growth of the Company, including identifying and implementing new opportunities for the Company.
- Involvement with the Board of Directors of FP Canadian Newspapers Limited Partnership (the "Board") in reporting your work and other projects/duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Designation CA, CPA, CMA, CGA
- Strong public financial reporting abilities
- Strong software skill including intermediate to advanced Excel skills
- Publishing/media industry experience considered an asset
Salary:
From $165,000.00 per year
