ONA has developed an Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression (ARAO) Action Plan to inform, renew and strengthen our resolve and commitment to collaboratively co-create a more racially and just, equitable working culture.

This position will work closely with other teams, including Anti-Racism Advisory, Human Rights and Equity, Legal, the Membership Education Team, Human Resources and with the Staff Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee.


This is what else you can expect from this dynamic role:

  • Be the staff lead on the ARAO efforts focusing on Regions 3 and
  • Implement the ARAO Action Plan
  • specifically member-related sections.
  • Developing ONA's internal capacity by assisting with the creation of an ARAO Standing Committee.
  • As part of the new staff ARAO Team, provide support to the ARAO Standing Committee and the Anti-Racism Advisory Team.
  • Develop communication material for members in partnership with the Communications and Government Relations Team.
  • Work effectively with internal stakeholders, including the ARAO Standing Committee (to be developed), Member Education (ME) Team, the Anti-Racism Advisory Team and the Human Rights & Equity Team.
  • Accountable for understanding ONA's strategic outcomes as it relates to implementing the ARAO Action Plan and how one's individual role relates to ONA's broader outcomes.
  • Accountable for having a working knowledge of ONA's governing policies, Executive Limitations, the Constitution, Operating Standards and Guidelines.
  • Accountable for providing service to members in a manner that is consistent with keeping the interests of the membership as the primary focus of work.
  • Accountable for identifying risks and opportunities related to ONA achieving its goals/mandate.
  • Accountable for identifying skill, knowledge and resource gaps as required to perform tasks.

What we are looking for:


  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree which includes courses in one or more of the following areas: equity, social justice, human rights law, Indigenous rights, antiracism, antioppression, critical disabilities, intersectionality, crosscultural communication, and culturally aware traumainformed practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and direct lived experience will be considered.
  • Postsecondary education in Adult Education preferred, or actively engaged in pursuing such designation.
  • Experience in learning and development with expertise in antiracism, anti
- oppression, and decolonization is preferred.

  • Experience in needsbased educational program development, design, and implementation is preferred.
  • Must have experience in facilitation, adult learning, and professional development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of racism, in theory and practice, and how it operates from an intersectional perspective with other identities including (but not limited to) gender identity, gender expression, age, sex, religion, sexual orientation, language, health status, appearance, ability/disability, family status, etc.
  • Experience in the design, facilitation, and management of organizational initiatives to stated outcomes.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the goals and strategies of Indigenous, Black, Racialized and historically underrepresented healthcare advocacy groups, including Black Health Matters, Indigenous Primary Healthcare Council, and Rainbow Health Ontario.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of how systemic racism, exclusion and the concerns of Indigenous, Black and historically underrepresented groups play out in rural, suburban and smaller urban centres in these regions.
  • Demonstrated traumainformed skills and ability to respond with cultural awareness to individuals who have experienced or witnessed intersectional forms of racism is preferred.
  • Bilingual English/French would be an asset.
