We are looking for a Curator, Northern Ethnology


As a
Curator, Northern Ethnology, you will be responsible for undertaking or supporting research, writing activities, field research, collection development initiatives, and participation in the development of museum initiatives and specialized communications on the history and experience of Indigenous peoples in northern Canada, in support of Museum priorities; liaising with scholarly and public communities of interest, including Indigenous Peoples, as appropriate; supporting related Museum priorities, including repatriation and land claims inquiries; supporting visitor services and outreach initiatives, including exhibitions and public programs; providing leadership and services to the community of scholars consistent with Museum interests, priorities, and best practices; providing advice and information to senior management in areas of professional competence; and represents the Museum, as requested, to external parties, venues, or processes.

Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in:

  • Complex and extensive research in the relevant field or fields;
  • Scholarly communications and research dissemination, including print and nonprint publications;
  • Evaluation, documentation, or professional usage of material culture for research and communications;
  • Multidisciplinary or teambased working environments; and popular audience communications and project development.

Knowledge of:


  • Applicable research, research methods, professional activities, literatures, and best practices in this and related disciplines, at the national and international level;
  • Applied research and communications for public audiences;
  • Professional networks, research opportunities, and emerging or relevant technologies or media;
  • Material culture, curatorial roles and responsibilities, and collections planning; and
  • The Canadian Museum of History's programs, activities, and operating environment.

Education:
Master's degree (minimum) or Doctoral degree (preferred) in the requisite discipline(s) or an equivalent combination of experience and education.


Compensation:
$70,353 to $93,442


Status:
Permanent Full-Time Position (# 10410)
