Overview:
Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Produces a variety of maps for visual aids supporting a variety of reports, advertising, presentations, Committee and Council meetings and Public Hearings; extracts and imports maps from the GIS System into the software Adobe Illustrator and InDesign and occasionally CorelDraw; creates maps by adding text, boundaries and tones.
- Maintains cartography for OCP Schedule 2 and Single Family Lot Size Policy, and information maps sold at the Front Counter
- Circulates Zoning Amendment maps
- Provides support to the City's Production Centre, by cutting and mounting posters, displays and binder covers, etc., as well as laminating and coordinating final assembly.
- Provides basic graphic design support for projects that adhere to templates and City branding, such as signage, brochures, reports and posters, etc.
- Maintains inventory of products produced by the Production Centre for sale at the front counter and replenishes as needed.
- Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Sound knowledge of computer assisted mapping techniques, graphics and related software programs. (Adobe Creative Suite, CorelDraw, GIS/ArcMap)
- Sound knowledge of department functions, objectives and procedures.
- Knowledge of general drafting, layout, and graphic presentation methods and techniques applicable to municipal planning work.
- Knowledge of the cartographic presentation of municipal functions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
- Considerable independent judgement and action ability in meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work with mínimal direct supervision and deal tactfully and effectively with municipal officials and employees.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by some coursework in in cartography, graphic design or related discipline.
- Up to 1 year experience in a planning related role in a complex, unionized environment.
- Experience in GIS ArcMap, Richmond Interactive Map
- Staff View (RIM) and Amanda task management software is preferred.
