Position Overview:
In this developmental role, the Maintenance Worker will demonstrate good judgment, and work to complete all assigned tasks related to the operation and maintenance within assigned recreation facilities in a timely, safe manner.
As directed by the supervisor, completes and informs preventative maintenance and life cycle requirements, inspections, contractor oversight, OHS requirements, and support the City's Asset management program.
This position is associated with the facility operations of the Agrena, Border Paving Athletic Center (BPAC) Fuhr Sports Park, Jubilee Spray Park and other facilities as assigned.
In the absence of the Facility Operations Supervisor and/or Recreation Facility Foreman, or Facility Operator, this position will provide leadership, and day-to day direction, to other facility operations staff in carrying out assigned work and duties required to provide quality, safe experiences for users, general public and other staff.
This position falls within the International Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 955.Please note, this position description is currently under review.
Responsibilities:
- Facility Operations
- Completes all facility operation tasks of assigned facilities including, but not limited to, operating of equipment and tools, monitoring mechanical systems in a safe, effective manner.
- Understands user group needs and requirements and plans tasks to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Complete basic handyman tasks and repairs to building and equipment as assigned.
- Safely Operates all assigned equipment and tools, following required procedures.
- Continues to develop skills and knowledge in the area of facility operations and facility systems.
- Performs scheduled, preventative maintenance inspections and check on all assets as assigned, recommending required repair work if necessary to the supervisor.
- Completes all required custodial duties.
- Contributes to a safe, secure, and a positive work environment.
- Actively participate and mentor others in the City's Safety Management Program ensuring hazards, safe work practices, emergency response, training, inspections, and all required safety meetings with staff prior to work starting on a specific project/program is completed.
- Demonstrate consistent and proper PPE use and correct methods, practices, and rules of safe operation of assigned equipment is being followed.
- Ensure all required reporting and follow up is completed in a timely manner.
- Risks to the public and users of the facilities are identified and mitigated.
- Protection of the facility and related assets through adherence to security protocols.
- Completes all required tasks in a timely, competent manner, asking for direction and further clarity when required.
- In the absence of a supervisor, respond to inquires or complaints in a manner that is sensitive to both the public and City needs, in a courteous and polite manner, elevating them promptly to the appropriate individuals for further follow up, as required.
Administration and Finance- Ensure all required documentation is completed as per City standards including, but not limited to facility and safety inspection reports, toolbox meeting reports, and incident reports, timesheets, etc.
- Use assigned systems as required. (i.e. Cartegraph, Avanti).
- Attend other department and organizational meetings as assigned.
- Use City tools and supplies with care.
- Post and update facility space schedules (dressing room assignments).
Leadership, Supervision, and Training- In the absence and/or direction of a Facility Supervisor, Recreation Facility Foreman or Operator, may occasionally provide the over-site of other facility operations staff and task coordination.
