THE OPPORTUNITY
Campfire Circle is currently seeking a _Manager, Overnight Programs_ for a 1-year contract ending in March 2024.

This role will be accountable for development, delivery, and management of safe, fun and engaging camp-style programs that meet the needs of campers, families, staff, and volunteers at Muskoka's Overnight Camp Programs.

This position works under the supervision of the Director, Overnight Programs and closely with the other Manager, Overnight Programs on site to oversee all elements of year round overnight programs.

They are a key leader in the planning, risk management, and facilitation of camp, as well as volunteer and camper support.

The Manager, Overnight Programs is supported by and manages a team of summer staff (approximately 20 staff) and seasonal weekend program staff to achieve Camp's vision to:

  • Provide the safest and most enriching year-round camp experience for children living with cancer, and
  • Provide kids with cancer and kids affected by childhood cancer with a unique opportunity for growth through challenging, fun, enriching and magical experiences.

The Key Accountabilities of the role include:

a) Participate with the Overnight Camp Director in the development, execution and monitoring of short
- and long-term plans for all overnight programming designed to meet the goals for strategic growth of the organization.


b) Develop and ensure implementation of annual and long-range Overnight Program plans and budgets consistent with the strategic goals of the organization.


c) Actively participate in the monitoring, reporting, and evaluation of program plans and budgets.


d) Manage the development and delivery of safe, fun, accessible and engaging camp-style programs that meet the needs of campers year round including:

  • Summer Overnight Programs (Camper & Family Programs)
  • Weekends at Camp

e) Oversee scheduling, design and facilitation of programs and activities, including development of programming manuals and resources.


f) Ensure all overnight programs incorporate the camp's values and traditions, and ensure all programs meets relevant accreditations and laws (including, but not limited to Ontario Camps Association, Public Health Regulations, AODA).


g) Responsible for overseeing program equipment and supply purchasing, inventory, maintenance and care, and manage program merchandise ordering, inventory and distribution for campers, volunteers and guests.


h) Work closely with Director in overseeing program risk management, while monitoring and implementing policies and procedures to ensure safety and well-being of all participants on site.


i) Be present on site to manage camp in absence of Director in the summer and for multiple weekends throughout the year.


j) Maintain all affiliation relationships for the camper program, including Ontario Recreational Canoe & Kayak Association (ORCKA), Challenges Unlimited Inc. (CUI), Adventureworks, Red Cross, Lifesaving Society, Waterski Wakeboard Ontario (WSWO), etc.


k) Support day to day communication with the on-site catering team related to program and scheduling.


l) Manage bus chaperone training and programming for year round overnight programs.


m) Maintain photo sharing database for overnight programs year round and document photographs and camper stories for overnight programs.


n) Work closely with the Operations department to ensure the upkeep of the overnight facility.


o) Develop and manage meaningful relationships with campers and families on behalf of the organization at all programs


p) Working closely with Director manage and guide camper care and individual camper behaviour support strategies and plans.


q) Provide oversight and direction to staff in accordance with the department's strategic planning and annual objectives. Develop clear and concise guidelines to identify group projects and how to track progress.


r) Staff Management, including managing weekly/bi weekly department meetings, identify areas of focus, and develop agenda, assign and follow-up on responsibilities and duties, actively participate in the recruitment and selection process, coach, mentor, and develop staff, and manage staff performance.
