Our Team


The Mines Technical Services (MTS) team is responsible for maintaining a variety of functions including mine planning, scheduling, surveying, backfill, ventilation, ground control, geology metrics tracking, production statistics data input/review, incentives administration, annual capital plan development, and operating and capital cost tracking for variances.


The Opportunity
We are currently seeking
Divisional Supervisor to join our
Mines Technical Services (MTS) team at


Coleman Mine in
Sudbury. This is a
Fixed Term position.


In this role, you will supervise a group of technical staff responsible for providing all technical services execution work at their respective mine, potentially including beat geology, mineability, and dilution reporting, production layouts, survey, ventilation survey, ground control QA/QC, and seismic technology.

Following the 3-month plan provided by the Mine Planning team, along with mentorship and instruction from MTS functional groups such as Geology, Ventilation, Ground Control and Standards you will coordinate the execution of all mines technical services execution work.


In addition, you will:

  • Ensure that the work performed by MTS execution staff is done safely, following Vale standards and government regulations, through regular job observations and audits.
  • Carry out all mines technical services work required by the monthly 3month & 30day plans, including, but not limited to, production drill and blast layouts, production development layouts, survey, ventilation survey, ground control QA/QC and seismic technology.
  • Participate in daily schedule review meetings, weekly and monthly planning meetings.
  • Complete monthly reporting on KPI actuals, including all required budget driver actuals data, incentive calculation requirements.
  • Complete daily reporting of actuals for all critical metrics including daily tons hoisted, trucked, mucked; feet developed; feet drilled; sandfill poured, etc.
  • Be accountable for the care and calibration of all technical instruments and software used by the MTS execution team and providing required service to respective mine in order complete on mine plans (including but limited to survey, ventilation, probing, etc.).
  • Provide required performance feedback and data to support business requirements
  • Ensure the capability of all direct report engineering and technical staff meets the encouraged performance level, coach and mentor direct reports.
  • Understand the EngineerinTraining program Progression and nonEngineering technical staff career progression program and develop direct reports.

About You

Education:


  • Degree in Mining or Geological Engineering, Mines Technology or Geology.

Experience:


  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in Underground Execution Technical Services.
  • Common core will be an asset.

Skills:


  • Knowledge of mining standards and guidance documents.
  • Underground mine design, mining technology, and high level of understanding of underground mining activities.
  • Knowledge of engineering planning software (Deswik) is recommended.
  • Strong people leadership skills, including mentoring and coaching skills.
  • Strategic thinking and effective decision making.
  • Change management skills and openness to learning and sharing new insights.
  • Building relationships, collaboration, and teamwork.
  • Drive for sustainable results with a strong focus on continuous improvement.
