The Foreman - Civil Utilities role is based in Edmonton, AB, along the West Valley Line Corridor, reporting directly to the Site Supervisor.

The key focus is to oversee and guide a team involved in the construction and upkeep of Shallow Underground Utilities.

  • Full understanding of the Construction Project Scope safety and environmental requirements.
  • Leads crews in areas such as HSE, safety toolbox talks, tail board meetings, mentoring, and training.
  • Supervises a team of pipe layers, laborers, and operators at the construction location.
  • Acts as a liaison between the team and the Superintendent.
  • Monitors the crew's attendance and performance efficiency.
  • Resolves any conflicts or challenges on-site amicably.
  • Conducts staff training to ensure adherence to work standards and daily coordination.
  • Enhances project productivity and profitability.
  • Provides project updates and maintains regular communication with superintendents.
  • Plans, schedules, and directs construction and maintenance crews in daily tasks while prioritizing safety and productivity.
  • Interprets construction drawings and project documents related to excavation and installation tasks.
  • Gives lead direction in setting up and operating equipment at the site.
  • Responsible for various installation tasks including traffic signals, steel structures, and conduit-related work.
  • Keeps records of all maintenance tasks as per contractual obligations.
  • Supports other duties as necessary, including scheduling and quality monitoring.

WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Previous experience in shallow/deep utilities.
  • Minimum 5 years of construction experience with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Background as an equipment operator is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of traffic signals and street light construction is advantageous.
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • CSTS Certification.
  • Level 2 Ground Disturbance Certification.
  • Completion of Pre-Access Alcohol & Drug Testing as per client specifications.
  • Valid Alberta Driver's License, class required.
  • Leadership for Safety Excellence training is a bonus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
