GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Manager of Building Services, the License and Property Use Inspector is responsible for
enforcing municipal bylaws related to licensing, property use, and zoning regulations within the District of Squamish.
This position conducts inspections, investigations, and responds to complaints to educate the public and encourage
compliance with applicable bylaws and regulations.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Responds to staff and public inquiries regarding licensing, property use, and zoning regulations within the District of
- Issues Warning Notices of Violation or Bylaw Offence Notices.
- Conducts routine site inspections of businesses to determine business license compliance, including signage and
- Assists the Building Inspectors and Plans Examiners in the administration of escalating enforcement for safety, illegal
- Works with the Environmental Services department in education and enforcement of environmental protection
- Liaises with other departments within the District government, including Fire, Bylaw Enforcement, Planning, and
- Collaborates with the District of Squamish departments with respect to collection and documentation of evidence
- Consults, cooperates and communicates with external parties such as Vancouver Coastal Health, RCMP, the Liquor
- Communicates information from bylaws, regulations, and procedures to business & property owners, as well as the
- Prepares reports and other correspondence regarding enforcement on noncompliance.
- Provides suggestions for bylaw and policy amendments.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of the relationship between BC Building and Plumbing codes and local government bylaws and
- Knowledge of the Local Government Act and the Community Charter.
- Proficient utilizing various computer software, including Microsoft Office & Tempest.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize, manage and perform multiple duties.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to provide effective customer service, diffuse hostility in an effective
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Strong decisionmaking skills and sound judgement.
- Ability to work safely and in compliance with the District of Squamish Health and Safety Policy, WorkSafe BC, and
- Ability to use tact when dealing effectively with developers, contractors, homeowners and other members of the
- Ability to use the Geographic Information System (GIS).
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This position involves both indoor and outdoor work environments, with exposure to various weather conditions
- May be exposed to loud noise, dust, fumes, and other constructionrelated hazards at construction sites.
- Physical demands of the job include standing, walking, climbing stairs, and navigating uneven terrain during site
- May encounter potentially hazardous situations during inspections, such as unsafe structures, electrical hazards, or
REQUIRED TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Possession of a valid B.C. Class 5 Driver's License with a safe driving record
- Grade 12, supplemented by completion of a recognized postsecondary program in a related field such as
- Minimum of a combined 3 years related work experience in licensing, building inspection, and/or bylaw
OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience
