The Role


Our Health and Safety Manager has complete ownership of the development and management of the Health and Safety efforts at Bronte Construction.

Our Health and Safety Manager actively is engaged from the start to finish of each project, supporting project teams with expert health and safety documentation, insight and advice.

A Day in the Life

  • Complete ownership of the company Health and Safety Program which includes authoring, updating, management, reporting and training
  • Effective human resource management of health and safety personnel.
  • Manage and update various certifications which include IHSA COR and ISN Network.
  • Organize and coordinate the administration of the OH&S training to satisfy 'competent persons' under the Occupational Health & Safety Act and policies
  • Development of various HSE Processes and Training
  • Lead in the Investigation of all accidents and ensure all paperwork is completed in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures, including the initial filing of Workplace Safety & Insurance Board Form
  • Monitoring OH&S compliance by conducting regular workplace inspections and audits
  • Support construction projects by creating, and reviewing various HSErelated documentation
  • Complete all necessary reporting required pursuant to OH&S and WSIB legislation and regulations
  • Lead management and the management safety team in the investigation of accidents and near misses, identify root causes and trends and recommend accident prevention methods.
  • Lead all matters relating to injured worker claims and restricted work programs
  • Champion Joint OH&S committee meetings, provide technical support to Co-Chairs and committee as required and assist in resolving any issues
  • Organize and coordinate all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) regulatory requirements
  • Maintain and update all hazardous materials records and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
  • Plan and execute all Health and Safety events, and company trainings for all staff
  • Lead assessments of OH&S training needs for union and nonunion staff; design and/or acquire suitable/specific programs; and arrange/provide the training
  • Collect, maintain and organize records in the appropriate database of all OH&S documentation, including accident and training records
  • Organize the collection and analysis of OHS statistics. Prepare reports and presentations and provide action plans to address HSE recommendations
  • Lead responses to incidents or a request for an assessment, which may lead to recommendations for remedial action and necessary followup.
  • WSIB Claims and Account Management
  • Active participation in screening and selecting construction contractors
  • Lead the development and implementation of policies, procedures and standards in the area of health and safety
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree or college diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience as a Safety Lead, Senior Safety Specialist, Safety Specialist or Safety Manager
  • Experience in team management
  • Expert knowledge of OHSA regulations and hazard recognition, record keeping and injury management
  • Experience with WSIB, Case Management
  • Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Suite and Site Docs
  • Passion for safety, with the ability to help others
  • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wideranging climates and environments
  • Expert knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction Regulations
  • Ability to speak publicly in groups and provide training
