Position Summary


Under the direction of the Plant Manager the Maintenance Manager leads all activities of the Plant Maintenance and Refrigeration department to ensure short and long term operational plans, objectives, requirements and standards are met.

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for maintenance inventory control, management of equipment breakdowns, and preventative maintenance program, while establishing quality and cost standards.

Key Accountabilities

  • Directs Maintenance and Refrigeration activities at the Plant to ensure that disruption to production is minimized and maintenance expenditure is maintained within established cost parameters. Provides feedback on budget and the resource needs for the Maintenance and Refrigeration Department;
  • Leads a team of 2 Supervisors and 7 Maintenance/Refrigeration Technicians to align with national maintenance program and ensure efficient daytoday operation of equipment and plant services including cost control, safety and product quality;
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, develop strategies and implementation plans that realizes cost/production improvements and also develop and manage the annual Maintenance / Engineering Department Budget;
  • Execution of capital projects utilizing project management methodology for plant operating improvements; and using appropriate change management tools:
  • Under the direction of the Plant Manager, determines and assigns maintenance priorities. Monitors maintenance assignments to ensure quality workmanship and specification compliance. Interacts with other plant departments, Head Office, other plants, and Engineering to ensure the proper functioning of all systems in the facility. Plans for the future needs of the production facility with the Plant Manager and Engineers;
  • Provide leadership to Maintenance and Refrigeration Supervisors to ensure consistent quality of work, attainment of safety and productivity goals/standards. Directs all Supervisors' actions, including coaching, setting goals and objectives, salary reviews. Assists with preparation of budget, assessing performance of supervisors and safety;
  • Ensure implementation of the Prevention Maintenance Program with focus on preventing the plant from equipment breakdowns. This would include inspections, appropriate assignments of maintenance tasks / activities work. Ensures the Prevention Maintenance Program is applied to all equipment.
  • Provide direction to Supervisors in the department. Supervises and assigns the work of maintenance Supervisors. Inspects work for completeness;
  • Ensures adherence to company safety standards, policies and procedures. Ensures that supervisors are enforcing that Maintenance and Refrigeration staff correctly wears and uses safety equipment, as required. Ensures that all safety inspections are completed as required and ensures adherence to company key control policies;
  • Works with Plant Manager and Engineers to oversee construction and expansion projects. Works with contractors and vendors to minimize costs, oversee quality of work, and time lines are met.

Requirements:


  • Strong project management skills in planning, scheduling, assigning, budgeting and managing;
  • Mechanical/ Industrial Engineer Degree/Diploma is preferred and refrigeration ticket is an asset;
  • 35 years leadership/supervisory experience in a maintenance role or equivalent;
years experience in a food processing environment preferred;

  • Hands on Individual with the proven ability to provide leadership and direction within the maintenance department (this includes ability to manage within the Collective Agreements or Terms and Conditions, Plant's and HR policies and guidelines);
  • Knowledge and /or experience in LEAN manufacturing an asset;
  • Strong communication and analytical skills;
  • Exceptional computer skills;
