  • Position Overview:
  • Older Adult Services is looking for a flexible, organized, and dedicated individual to join our team. Reporting to the Supervisor of Older Adult Services, the Kitchen Assistant supports all aspects of the meal service to participants in the Senior Day Program. Ensures that high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained in the program and in the kitchen.
  • Responsibilities:
  • Prepares coffee and muffins for the program's morning nourishment
  • Manages and monitor's inventory and informs Older Adult Program Assistant of products to order
  • Handles, stores, and labels all products properly and in accordance with applicable food safety requirements. Ensures disposal of expired food.
  • Ensures that high standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained throughout the kitchen to meet the required standards of practice prescribed by Public Health Services in the Region of Waterloo
  • Washes/sanitizes any dishes and equipment used
  • Completes temperature checks on food served to ensure program is adhering to safe food handling procedures
  • Ensure that all record keeping is kept uptodate and adequately filed (e.g., temperature control requirements, cleaning schedules) forwards paperwork to administrative staff as required
  • Ensures all equipment is in good, clean working order and requests any repairs/replacements as necessary, in consultation with supervisor.
  • Ensures service setup, serving, clearing, and cleaning of dining room is completed
  • Clears tables following meals and sanitizes tables
  • Follows established procedures during emergencies
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Hours of Work:
Up to 24 hours per week, Monday to Friday 9:15am-2:00pm- Requirements:

  • Grade 12 diploma
  • Prior related work experience working in kitchen or in a food services environment (minimum of 3 months)
  • Valid certificate in Food Handling/Safe Food Handling
  • Able to work independently under mínimal supervision within the kitchen environment
  • Must be reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
