The Opportunity:


The Strategy & Improvement portfolio is mandated to lead, facilitate, and support the execution of the IWK's strategic plan as it relates to improvement, transformation, and strategic initiatives.

The portfolio works closely with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, Senior Leadership Team, and Board of Directors to develop, execute, and sustain the corporate strategy for the organization and provides leadership to accelerate organizational performance through comprehensive strategic planning and execution, and continuous improvement.

The portfolio is responsible for formalizing the organization's strategic plan and its execution frameworks/processes.

They are accountable for clarifying and translating strategy for all staff and physicians across the organization to achieve top-to-bottom alignment and to sustain the execution of the strategy while driving organizational transformation.

The portfolio leads the development and implementation of a framework to establish greater transparency and accountability regarding the strategic and operational performance of the organization by forging new working relationships and synergies.

Accountable for overseeing an enterprise-wide effort to change the way we work while empowering teams to execute and deliver on measurable key performance outcomes, the Strategy & Improvement portfolio is responsible for the following functions:

  • Continuous Improvement (LEAN) Initiatives
  • Strategic/Transformative Projects & Initiatives
  • Integrated Risk Management
  • Strategic Plan Development
Last year the government launched its ambitious plan Action for Health aimed at transforming healthcare delivery in Nova Scotia.

Working with Nova Scotia Health and many others in the health system, we at IWK Health have been leading and participating in provincial initiatives as part of this transformation.

In addition, we have IWK-specific strategic objectives to advance and improve important initiatives that will support our staff as well as our patients and families.

IWK Health is undergoing significant change in many areas and at a rapid pace to deliver on these initiatives.


Reporting to the Director, Strategy & Improvement, the Clinical Manager, Transformation is responsible for establishing and providing ongoing leadership and organization to support the design and implementation of complex, high-risk, organization-wide clinical change initiatives, including change sustainment and improvement processes.

This includes the development of frameworks and processes that advance and support the IWK's strategic plan and implementation of business cases.

Working closely with the Manager, Transformation, the Clinical Manager will lead a team of clinical leaders of operations providing input and guidance to enable them to successfully complete the implementation and execution of their assigned projects, as well as oversight to ensure key milestones and measures of success are achieved in a manner that can be demonstrated through performance and accountability frameworks.


Hours of Work:

Monday - Friday (37.5 hours per week). Flexible work hours required at times.


Your Qualifications:


  • Baccalaureate Degree in a health related field required.
  • Current registration with the appropriate licensing body of Nova Scotia required.
  • Master's Degree in a health related field required. (In progress will be considered)
  • Minimum five (5) years in a clinical role plus two (2) years related management/leadership experience.
  • Previous experience in a complex healthcare organization preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in the concepts of programbased care and patient/family centered care required.
  • Demonstrated excellent leadership and team building skills re
