Labourer - St. Thomas, Canada - Cando Rail & Terminals
Description
Labourers with Cando are responsible for performing the safe and efficient loading, unloading and securement of product to railcars.Working in a fast-paced, customer oriented environment, the Operators must work well in teams to maximize efficiency while demonstrating a strong initiative and safety focus.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Conduct and participate in clear and concise job briefings.
- Operate equipment such as lift truck, genie lift, spacer machine, etc. according to the safety rules and regulations of Cando and its customer
- Maintain inventory by identifying, labelling, and placing frames and supplies in stock and recording locations of inventory
- Document frames and supplies by recording units delivered and the locations of the units (FIFO),
- Locate materials and supplies by pulling and verifying frames are listed in production/shipping orders
- Prepare stock for shipment by identifying, pulling, placing, loading, scanning, and capping/securing product on truck and/or railcar
- Document product shipment by recording units shipped
- Lift 25 lb rods into caps above head height and secure by pulling a chain through the rod; ratchet turnbuckles on chains until chain is tight and load is secure, lift and sort 20 lb spacers to support production
- Adhere to all Health and Safety Programs; conduct job hazard analysis, report unsafe working conditions, and ensure they are repaired immediately
- Contribute to team effort by assisting other team members in all functions of the job; take direction from Shift Supervisor
- Work and operate equipment according to customer and Cando's safety rules and regulations
- Ensure the site is clean, tidy, organized, and a safe work place at all times
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Prioritize and perform multiple tasks with the ability to meet daily demands and function in busy situations
- Ability to operate and perform daily maintenance checks on required machinery, including the ability to change clamps and exchange propane cylinders
- Medically fit to work in a safety sensitive environment; physically fit including the ability to pull self up and down from forklift, genie lift, and rail car
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions in a plant that operates 24 hours a day, seven (7) days a week
- Demonstrate initiative to work with others to foster a respectful workplace
- Able to accept new challenges and responsibilities as they arise
Education & Experience
- Training will be provided; Must be able to hold and maintain required certification
- Experience operating forklifts, genie lifts, etc is preferred
