We currently have a
Temporary Full-time (until approx. Jan 2024) opportunity for a
Cleaner in the
Preclinical Research at our
Bayview Campus.

**Hours of Work:
Weekdays:
Days, 8 hrs; as per schedule


Summary of Duties
To perform variety of tasks according to specific preclinical research vivarium standard operating procedure such as:

  • Provide knowledge of detergent-disinfectant usage and operating knowledge of sanitation and sterilization equipment including autoclaves, automated cage washing machines and conveyors, bottle fillers, bedding dump stations, etc.
  • Skill to operate and maintain mechanical equipment: Autoclaves, cage washers, vehicles, janitorial equipment, etc.
  • Incumbent will be responsible for cleaning/repairs of cages/enclosures and related ancillary equipment. No direct contact with live laboratory animals.
  • General maintenance and cleaning of cage wash area and throughout corridors of the facility.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Minimum of Grade 10 education
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • WHMIS Training required
  • Previous experience with cage wash, bottle wash and autoclaves an asset
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping
  • Ability to work with mínimal supervision
  • No history of animal related allergies
  • Able to lift 50 lbs. and to execute repetitive tasks on a routinely basis
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in Preclinical Research
  • Must be comfortable working alone in following conditions: constant exposure to possible allergens, including but not limited to animal waste, dirty bedding, animal hair, dander, dust, steam, in an enclosed, confined area
