The Opportunity:


Reporting to the Centres' Supervisor, the Program Coordinator coordinates the activities and programs, ensuring that a vibrant, diverse, and engaging environment is offered to clients and/or caregivers.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Recommends, develops, and implements diversified and meaningful programs with the six dimensions of wellness in mind (social, physical, intellectual, emotional, vocational, and spiritual)
  • Drafts and prepares communication tools (newsletters, posters, notices, calendars, etc.) designed to inform and engage clients and volunteers in regular and/or special events
  • Creates a safe and pleasant recreational environment to stimulate participation and creativity
  • Develops and fosters community partnerships to further enhance support to clients and/or program development
  • Accesses and utilizes community resources where appropriate
  • Liaises with external agencies and individuals from seniorsfocused organizations, clubs, associations, and groups to plan and deliver special events, outings, and programs
  • Collaborates with the marketing team to promote events and programs
  • Organizes supplies, equipment, and resources
  • Effectively communicates and interacts with clients in a courteous and professional manner
  • Initiates and completes the client intake process (including the required assessments and reassessments for specific programs with guidance from the Supervisor
  • Maintains and updates client and volunteer files in the client information management system and, volunteer and client schedules
  • Participates in fundraising activities which may occur after regular work hours.
  • Assists with volunteer recruitment, selection, orientation, and training and at times facilitates inservice meetings
  • Processes payments for client services, donations, and fundraised money
  • Prepares and reconciles bank deposits and deposits at the bank as required
  • Reports any unsafe conditions, safely hazards, concerns and incidents to the TL
  • Follows workplace health and safety guidelines
  • Performs all other duties as assigned including the participation on committees/project work groups.

Qualifications & Experience:


  • Post-Secondary education in Gerontology, Dementia Studies, Recreation Therapy, Social Service Worker or other health services field
  • Certification in Volunteer Coordination an asset
  • Food Handlers Certificate an asset
  • First Aid and CPR an asset
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in program coordination
  • Public speaking experience
  • Proficient Computer Skills including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and client database systems (CIMS)
  • Knowledge of event planning practices and techniques
  • Knowledge of marketing and promotional practices
  • Physical ability to perform duties such as standing for long periods, squatting, bending, and lifting heavy objects
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and multitask
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively with clients, caregivers, staff, health care professionals, service agencies both verbally and in writing
  • Bilingualism (English/French) an asset
  • Possesses a valid Class G Driver's License and acceptable Vulnerable Sector Background Check
