The Organization

The Winnipeg Airports Authority (WAA) is a community-based, non-share capital corporation that operates, manages, maintains, and invests in the Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport and affiliate businesses.

Operating on a multi-site property, the WAA is responsible for airport operations, security, facilities, parking, ground transportation and communications.

The Opportunity

Reporting into the Director, Security & Public Safety, the Airport Security Coordinator performs a wide range of operational and administrative duties in order to help provide a safe, secure, and efficient airport operation.

Administrative duties will focus on maintaining compliance with all applicable acts, laws, regulations, measures, and directives relating to civil aviation security and operations.

This position will also support the security team with monitoring airport security operations and assisting with actions related to the prevention and mitigation of potential security threats.


Responsibilities include:


  • Administration and support of security programs and activities;
  • Maintenance and development of procedures, work instructions, and processes pertaining to Security Administration;
  • Maintains, enters, adjusts, and validates records;
  • Assists with investigations by compiling data, records, notes, etc.;
  • Supports security audits;
  • Completes and maintains accurate records, document quality control, department regulatory reports, and performs related duties as required;
  • Assists with the administration of the Airport Access Control System, Restricted Area Pass and Clearance Program, Key Control System, CCTV equipment and various other electronic security equipment;
  • Assists with ensuring the functionality and appropriate maintenance of systems and equipment.
  • Respond to and provide assistance during critical security related incidents;
  • Ensure ongoing regulatory compliance with respect to security exercise requirements. Involved in the planning and delivery of these exercises;
  • Actively participate in the Airport Safety & Security Committee.

Selection Criteria include:


  • College diploma in Criminal Justice, Policing or related studies and/or equivalent years of experience;
  • Three years' experience in a security role;
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance issued by the Government of Canada;
  • Training development experience in a security or regulated environment;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite;
  • Experience in developing and delivering security or regulatory programs is considered an asset;
  • Experience in developing and delivering security or regulatory programs in an airport environment is considered an asset;
  • Understanding of aeronautical legislation such as the Aeronautics Act, Security Screening Measures, Canadian Aviation Regulations, and Canadian Aviation Security Regulations;
  • Ability to provide sound judgment, take initiative and make decisions in emergency and stressful situations;
  • Ability to work independently and assess priorities with a high degree of attention to detail;
  • A skilled communicator both verbally and in writing;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with crossfunctional business partners to achieve results;
  • Resourcefulness and the ability to manage multiple initiatives with strong prioritization skills;
  • Occasional travel required.

Condition of employment is the ability to obtain and maintain an Airport Restricted Area Identification Card and Secret Clearance issued by the Government of Canada.
