Position Description


Reporting to a Directors of Nursing Practice, the Interim Manager of Nursing Education and Professional Practice demonstrates commitment to a philosophy of patient-centred and evidence informed care and provides leadership to the processes of facilitating and coordinating initiatives to support a vision of excellence in professional nursing practice across all campuses within the professional practice and nursing education domains.


The Interim Manager of Nursing Education and Professional Practice is responsible for enhancing and actively shaping an environment of nursing innovation, engagement, knowledge transfer, continuous learning, quality, safety, empowerment, leadership, collaboration and accountability.

This role is responsible for the mentorship and development of nursing leadership at all levels inclusive of management as it relates to evidence-based implementation, quality improvement and practice performance management.


The Interim Manager of Nursing Education and Professional Practice ensures the integration of evidence-informed nursing practice and adult learning principles into the planning, development, implementation, sustainability, and evaluation of educational initiatives that meet both the unit/program and corporate priorities.


The Interim Manager of Nursing Education and Professional Practice ensures that educational initiatives/programs are in accordance with the CNO Standards of Practice, successful knowledge translation strategies, best practices in clinical practice and adult education, and are aligned with the organizational strategic plan and SJHH Nursing Vision, Mission, and Philosophy.

This role also contributes to inter-professional education across SJHH.


The Interim Manager of Nursing Education and Professional Practice consistently applies an identified change theory and models innovation, initiative, and passion with demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, inspire and build a high performing team.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Required
  • Masters' Degree preferred
  • Current College of Nurses Registration with no restrictions
  • Canadian Nurses Association Certification in a nursing specialty preferred
  • Professional membership preferred
  • 3 to 5 years of recent management and / or leadership experience required
  • Demonstrates enhanced knowledge and expertise in interpersonal communication, coaching, negotiating, mentoring and team building skills that facilitate positive interactions among all members of the interdisciplinary teams
  • Possesses highly developed analytical, problem solving, critical thinking skills
  • Possesses the ability to introduce and effectively facilitate change
  • Demonstrates a strong patient and customer focused philosophy in all interactions
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, support and critical analysis in stressful, complex clinical and emotional situations

Responsibilities

  • Recruitment, hiring, management of nurse educators
  • Manages department's annual operating expenditures within established budget
  • Proven ability to communicate highly complex information both orally and in writing to a range of stakeholders
  • Contributes to the corporate efforts and initiatives, as appropriate, to enhance SJHH's mission, vision and values
  • Performs duties in a manner that demonstrates the employee's commitment to developing a just culture of patient and staff safety through accountability, reliability, trust and team work
  • Contributes to corporate efforts and initiatives, as appropriate, to enhance SJHH's mission, values and goals, overseeing and monitoring annual goals and monthly outcomes
  • Represents the nursing professional practice internally on SJHH committees, as required, and SJHH in the external community at conferences, workshops, etc.
  • Fosters and actively shapes an environment that facilitates collaborative decision making, engagement, knowledge translation, evidenceinformed practice, continuous learning, professional development, clinical inquiry, and evaluation/research
  • Contributes to the development and achievement of nursing and organizational strategic goals and initiatives, consistent with nursing and organizational vision and mission in collaboration with the Directors of Nursing Practice
