**COHO Management Services Society is a non-profit organization providing management for BC's housing co-operatives. We have been in business for over 35 years and are the largest provider of property management services to housing co
- ops in BC.**The Building inspector is responsible for inspecting buildings, maintenance systems, and individual housing units. The inspector detects and report building code violations and inspects interior and exterior home features including the foundation, roofing, plumbing and electrical, heating and cooling systems, and interior fixtures of the units.

The inspector also determines structural soundness and compliance with specifications and government and industry regulations, recommends replacements, improvements and repairs.

This position will involve regular and frequent travel to client sites in Metro Vancouver and Greater Victoria.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


Inspections:


  • Inspect building equipment, structures, individual housing units, and materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects
  • Using relevant information and individual judgement, determines the remaining useful life of inspected components and the time and cost of replacement
  • Records, stores and maintains inspection information in written or electronic form,
  • Compiles inspection reports and summaries including: o technical analysis; o priorities and grading of inspected items; o materials and resources needed;
  • Costing
  • Performs daytoday administrative tasks such as maintaining information files and processing paperwork

Staff support

  • Attend client sites in Metro Vancouver and Greater Victoria in support of assignments
  • Respond to requests from onsite maintenance staff, maintenance coordinators, management for assistance in the performance of their duties and the delivery of services to clients
  • Translating and explaining technical information and how it can be used

Systems and Services

  • Support the introduction and implementation of standardized systems for the performance of routine and specialized functions in client services delivery
  • Seek ways to improve COHO's model for service delivery to clients and recommend such improvements to the Manager of Field Operations
Other

  • Provide relief for onsite maintenance services, as required
  • Perform other related duties, as required

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Licence Property Inspector by Consumer Protection B.C.
  • Member of the Applied Science Technologist and Technicians of British Columbia
  • Minimum ten years' experience in the building construction and consulting sector
  • Provisional Certified House Inspector by British Columbia Institute of Property Inspectors
  • Completion of minimum of Half Day Hazardous Materials Awareness Training Course

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This position requires flexibility to work outside of regular hours (ie. evenings and weekends) when necessary. This position will be on multiple housing co-operatives with frequent activities and travel in and around the lower mainland.
