Biostatistics Research Specialist:
Primary Purpose:
To perform high level methodology research in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and research projects guidance and monitoring within the College of Medicine, Clinical Research Support Unit based in Saskatoon.
This position ensures participation in the research process/analysis, conducting up-to-date research projects and producing annual reports. The incumbent is expected to work effectively in a team environment and to provide guidance on research related matters.Nature of Work:
This position reports to the Director of the Clinical Research Support Unit (the Unit).
The Research Specialist will be an energetic and highly motivated individual who thrives on conducting research and contributing to decision-making and judgment in determining how to achieve the goals of the unit, research project.
Sound judgement, superb accuracy, and the ability to meet deadlines are essential.Accountabilities:
- Software programming such as NVivo for qualitative study and STATA, SAS, SPSS for quantitative study
- Supervises graduate research assistants/employees within the unit as required
- Conducts graduate study level academic credit/noncredit workshops offered by the unit and Department of Community & Epidemiology in College of Medicine
- Contributes to decisionmaking and judgment in determining how to achieve the goals and visions of the unit, program, project, or area.
- Determines the steps required to achieve the goals and vision of the unit, area, project
- Independently applies high level of research methodology in Epidemiology/Biostatistics expertise
- Professional qualifications associated with a high level of practice in research where necessary
- Involved in policy and development and implementation
- Provides courteous, professional, frontline guidance for the unit from researchers within the College, faculty members working within the unit, and the public at large.
- Produces annual reports for the College of Medicine
- Plays an active role in continuous improvement to processes
- Works as a collaborative member of the Unit
- Effectively represents the Research Unit dealing with issues and concerns, solving problems related to office functioning as they arise, and maintaining appropriate confidentiality of information and materials
Qualifications
Education:
PhD degree in Epidemiology or Biostatistics
Experience:
- A minimum of five years of experience after completion of PhD degree
- Qualitative and quantitative research experience and journal publications
- Software programing experience such as NVivo for qualitative study and STATA, SAS, SPSS for quantitative study.
- Teaching/providing workshops for faculty, residents, graduate/medical students
- Experience working within a research environment should be demonstrated
- Experience working and collaborating in diverse and inclusive settings is required
Skills:
- Strong computer programing skills with particular proficiency in analytical software (NVivo, STATA, SAS, SPSS)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written; possess a professional attitude with the ability to provide timely and courteous service under stressful conditions with a tactful and friendly approach
- Demonstrated ability to be selfmotivated with the ability to take direction, work effectively, and show initiative
- Ability to establish and maintain the level of professional relationships
- Demonstrated ability to identify issues, develop and implement creative, outcomesoriented solutions
- Demonstrated ability to gather, analyze, and present project results
- Ability to work effectively independently within a teamoriented and diverse atmosphere
