We are looking for a dynamic individual to be a part of our team for the position of Cook's Assistant to join our Halifax Campus.


Responsibilities:


  • Participates in the prepreparation of food items which may include any menu item including salads and sandwiches, in advance of menu day or on the menu day.
  • Ensures accurate portion sizes and prompt distribution of prepared foods for delivery to designated service areas and replenishes these items during meal service as necessary.
  • Accommodates requests from various service sites via the intercom system or telephone, and responds appropriately providing quality meal service.
  • Maintains high standards of hygiene and ensures all temperature charts, requisitions and records are completed by established Food Safety Standards and current legislation.
  • Assists in the preparation, packaging, and distribution of all types of meals, nourishments, and special functions for residents and clients.
  • Follows menus, work routines, and standards set out by the Food Service Supervisor in the Production area.
  • Assists with the duties of the cook as required in their absence e.g. days off, annual leave, or sickness.
  • Assists with meal preparation at short notice or in an emergency.
  • Assists other members of the team when necessary to ensure the smooth running of the department.
  • Ensures that the kitchen and equipment are kept clean and hygienic, carrying out duties on the cleaning rotation as required.
  • Assists with any other reasonable tasks as requested by a supervisor or manager.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum grade 12 Academic.
  • Three years experience in a longterm care facility.
  • Experience with a decentralized meal service systems would be an asset.
  • Preemployment cooking course would be an asset.
  • Basic food safety training certificate required.
  • Work requires the skills to read and understand instructions, add and subtract numbers, and make comparisons between numbers and letters.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs at a time, in good general health, and able to endure the daytoday pressure of the position
  • Must be capable of lifting, stooping, reaching, walking, pulling, and standing for long periods.
  • Work requires the ability to understand and respond to simple written or verbal instructions. Incumbents must respond appropriately to instructions, questions, or requests for information.
  • Maintains regular and consistent attendance by the Northwood corporate standard

Hours of Work: 80 Hours Biweekly (8 hr shifts)
