Supervisor
in the Environmental Services
Department at our Sunnybrook
.
**Hours of Work:
Weekdays & Alternating Weekends:
Days, Evenings, Nights; 8 hrs; As per schedule, On-Call and Statutory Holidays required


Summary of Duties


The successful applicant will report to the Manager of Environmental Services and be responsible for day-to-day operations in the department.

This individual ensures a clean, aseptic, and aesthetically pleasing environment and maintains programs and routines designed to ensure optimum environmental conditions in all areas.


In support of this, he / she:

  • Schedules, coordinates and assigns work routines and tasks, monitors work quality and progress, and follows up on completion.
  • Manages daily activities related to preventative and routine environmental maintenance programs.
  • Carries communication tools to respond to customer calls for services; investigates issues, and remedies problem situations.
  • Manages and provides operational leadership and training to staff teams averaging 40 personnel, over a large geographical area.
  • Deploys and utilizes human and supply resources effectively to achieve the desired objectives.
  • Fosters positive and effective interdepartmental relations and stakeholder communications.
  • Evaluates staff performance on an ongoing and annual basis.
  • Implements innovative solutions to problems and corrects deficiencies in service quality.
  • Implements the department's contingency strategies that would ensure the provision of services during crisis situations.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Must have OHA certification in Environmental Services and a Community College diploma in a related field required.
  • Three years of operational experience as an EVS Supervisor in a healthcare setting with wellrounded knowledge of all aspects of Environmental Services operations.
  • Advanced abilities to lead and manage unionized staff.
  • Experience in dealing with collective agreements and grievance processes.
  • Exceptional customer service skills are absolutely essential.
  • Proven ability in troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Good knowledge of hospital related infection prevention and control practices.
  • Proficiency in balancing and managing multiple priorities and task assignments.
  • Advanced technical knowledge & experience to inform sound judgement in decisionmaking
  • Thorough knowledge of workplace health and safety obligations in areas such as WHMIS.
  • Demonstrated ability in decisionmaking, problem solving, and working under pressure, especially during crisis and unusual situations
