Our Team


The Business Support Specialist will report directly to the Head of Manitoba Operations and will be an integral member of our leadership team.


The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a
Business Support Specialist to join
our Manitoba Operations in
Thompson, Manitoba. This is a
permanent position working on site.


This is a senior role that will provide site support to areas which consist of Administration, Finance, Procurement, Communications, operations to ensure business objectives are met.


  • Be accountable to ensure all Projects and Services activities are integrated and designed to align with Vale Production Systems (VPS) elements, PNR's (Policies), related PGS (Procedures) and with all other Business units, i.e., Mines, Processing plants etc.
  • Ensure data collection systems are in place and effective. Perform the root cause analysis of performance problems and develop and implement solutions to optimize performance and improve the capacity of all assets.
  • Monitor the performance of unionized and nonunionized staff doing the work and take action to improve the capability of the team to meet future needs through the develop.
  • Develop and implement the North Atlantic strategic deployment plans for the Projects and Services team, coordinating crossboundary resources (Base Metals Teams, OE, and Operations).
  • Work in close partnership with our local union as the Co-Chair for the contracting out committee.
  • Monitor the performance of those doing the work and take action to improve the capability of the team through training/development.
  • Ensure projects comply with appropriate standards and meet HSE goals set for the Manitoba Operations. Accountable to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, legislated regulations, policies, and work standards.
  • Lead the change management strategy and communications for organizational design, special program/project implementation.
  • Accountable for collaborating with key stakeholders (internal and external), identify and develop recommendations on plant initiatives, ensuring best practices are standardized and shared across the business and that risks are identified and mitigated appropriately.
  • Lead the coordination of plant Key Performance Indicators
  • Lead the preparation of the annual budgeting cycles and 5year plan for all Departments and Cost Centres.
  • Chair weekly Leadership Meetings incorporating on a weekly rotation, Monthly Risk Management review, VPS People review, Monthly Finance Budgeting review.

About You

Education:


  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business, Accounting or a related field of study.

Experience:


  • Minimum 10 years of experience within an Underground Mining Operation

Skills:


  • Minimum of 5 years in a leadership role with experience in Operations
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, coach, influence and collaborate with others to build effective working relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to convert complexity to simplicity.
  • Excellent presentation development skills.
  • Results focused with strong analytical, planning, organizational and time management skills. Ability to manage changing priorities.
  • Knowledge of all Vale systems.
  • Software skills in MS Office products.
