Description

As a research technician, you will play a vital role in conducting in vivo experiments (animal models of sepsis and acute lung injury) as well as routine assays (e.g., ELISA, RT-qPCR, Western blot).

Projects will focus on advancing the fields of sepsis and lung injury research by investigating the potential benefits of novel therapeutics within these disease models.

You will also be responsible for the daily maintenance and organization of the lab, ensuring a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to managing inventory, ensuring equipment and supplies are well-maintained and ready for use, and adhering to safety protocols and procedures.

The lab space exists in the Sinclair Centre for Regenerative Medicine with access to all core facilities.

This position offers meaningful opportunities to enhance your skillset by participating in in depth group discussions, journal clubs, presentation skills and critical review of documents.


Expected Responsibilities

  • Conducting in vivo small animal experiments and tissue collection experience with surgical techniques will be considered as an asset

  • Performing routine laboratory techniques (e.g. reagent preparation, Western blots, RTqPCR, ELISA, histology, protein assays, etc.).
  • Performing basic cell culture experiments.
  • Experience with immunostaining (fluorescence microscopy) and flow cytometry is considered an asset.
  • Ordering laboratory materials and maintain financial records for lab.
  • Preparing and maintaining laboratory SOPs.
  • Assist with manuscript submissions and document proof reading.

Basic Requirements (Education/Experience):


  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field with a minimum of one year of research experience.
  • Excellent handeye coordination and experience with in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro methods
  • Skilled in experimental trouble shooting to address challenges effectively.
  • Strong time management skills to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Flexibility to accommodate periodic demanding animal experiments.
  • Attention to details to ensure accuracy of data and protocol requirements.
  • Computer literacy and knowledge of software packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, basic graphing, and statistical software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively as both part of an interdisciplinary team and independently.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Graduate degree in relevant field
  • Previous research experience including publications and presentations.
  • Experience in a hospital research environment

Contract Details:

This is a 2-year full-time contract with the possibility of renewal.
