Youth Outreach Worker, East Dartmouth

BGC Greater Halifax Clubs
This community-based program is in partnership with, and funded by, the Nova Scotia Department of Community Services.

The Youth Outreach Program exists to improve the immediate and long-term social, economic, educational, and health outcomes for youth 16 and older.

The Youth Outreach Worker will engage East Dartmouth youth through mentorship, and by helping them access services and supports. The Youth Outreach Worker reports to the Director of Youth Programs.


Experience and Qualifications
The Youth Outreach Worker will have experience and/or can demonstrate ability and qualifications in:

  • Experience in working with youth in a community-based setting; life experience is a definite asset
  • Postsecondary education in social sciences (Child and Youth Studies, etc.)
  • Knowledge of and connection to the East Dartmouth community
  • Knowledge and understanding of youth development
  • Knowledge and understanding of harm reduction and traumainformed support
  • Comfortable with and experienced in responding to disclosures of violence, sexual violence, and other sensitive information
  • Experience in safeguarding confidentiality of information and records
  • Knowledge and understanding of family, community, social, and historical factors and their impact on youth development
  • Experience in mentorship
  • Program and workshop development
  • Ability to support and engage youth in both group and oneonone sessions
  • Knowledge of youth/family/community resources, programs and services within the community and within Nova Scotia
  • Knowledge of and experience in helping youth navigate and access community services and supports such as housing, health, income assistance, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with culturally and socially diverse youth
  • Demonstration of experience in working from a strengthsbased and relationshipbased perspective
  • Experience in providing emotional support and problem solving for youth
  • Be creative, adventurous, and possess a knowledge/understanding of community and trends pertaining to youth
  • Demonstration of passion for working with youth, specifically in supporting youth who may be facing multiple and complex challenges
  • Knowledge of and demonstration of passion for the BGC mission and movement are definite assets
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and have access to a reliable vehicle
  • All employees of BGC Greater Halifax must complete vulnerable sector, criminal record, and child abuse registry checks.

Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position.

Responsibilities require work service of 40 hours per week; occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required to support various events and programs.


Salary:
$43,000.00-$45,000.00 per year

  • 8 hour shift
