Position Overview


Under the functional direction of the Senior Gallery Clerk, the Reception/Visitor Engagement position plays a key role in overall visitor experience.

They are responsible to create a welcoming and hospitable environment for visitors.

This position plays a key role in the overall security of the gallery through the monitoring of the gallery security system.


Duties and Responsibilities

Visitor Experience and Information:

  • Provides up to date information to the public on exhibitions, activities, special events and programs
  • Monitors gallery security camera screen and notifies appropriate staff and/or Security Company, police, fire department of any issues
  • Ensures all printed material is up to date and appropriately displayed throughout the gallery

Clerical Support:

  • Answers telephone and handles inperson inquiries at the reception desk
  • Gathers visitor statistics; general typing and keyboarding as required
  • Takes registration for art classes, bus trips and other programs
  • General office support as required including but not limited to: filing, processing gallery memberships, preparation of mailings
  • Assists with Gallery opening and closing as required
  • Keeps current on all County and Departmental policies and procedures

Financial Support:

  • Receives payment for art classes and programs and issues general receipts
  • Balances the cash register at the end of each day

General:

  • Incumbents must keep uptodate on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed
  • Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis

Qualifications

Minimum Formal Education:

  • Secondary school diploma

Experience:


  • 3 to 6 months relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated oral, written, presentation and reporting communication skills and capacities.
  • Knowledge about Canadian art history and a demonstrated interest in staying up to date on artistic practices.
  • Must be comfortable discussing art (contemporary & historical) with the general public.
  • Proven ability with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proven ability to remain current on all job related technologies and best practices.
