Native Education College is the largest private Indigenous College in BC, working with First Nations and Indigenous organizations to deliver programs in locations throughout British Columbia.

Working closely with the Vice President of Strategic Innovation, People & Culture the incumbent is primarily focused on the internal communication strategies and processes that improve employee's knowledge and understanding of NEC's strategic visions and goals support change management and promote a culture of trust and engagement through the open flow of communication.


Main Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with the VPSI, Office Managr, and other key managers, develops and implements an internal communications plan in support of NEC's Strategic Plan and daytoday operational requirements.
  • Works with managers to ensure that internal stakeholders are appropriately considered in the drafting of communication plans around organizational initiatives, programs, and projects.
  • Creates templates and considerations to make this process consistent and streamlined across the organization.
  • Works with managers to ensure that communications plans related to changes are successfully carried out at established intervals throughout the change.
  • Ensures internal communications messages have a consistent look and feel across all mediums and for different departments by ensuring the creation and accessibility of branded templates, etc.
  • Produces content in a variety of mediums that support the internal communications goals of NEC.
  • Provides input into the creation of measures for success of internal communications functions and provides reports on progress, as required.
  • May be asked to sit on various committees and provide input/best practice considerations, as required.
  • Performs other duties, as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Communications or related field plus a minimum of 35 years' relevant experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  • The creation of written and digital content
  • Using Microsoft Teams, staff intranet systems, and other communicationsrelated technology
  • Experience working in Indigenous organizations, and/or postsecondary landscape
  • Knowledge of internal Communications strategy.
  • Experience with modern intranet platforms such as WordPress, SharePoint and other cloudbased internal communications tools
  • Superb interpersonal skills, particularly with reference to managing professional relationships
  • Strong teamwork skills and work ethic
  • Problemsolving, critical thinking, and systems thinking skills
  • Excellent organizational skills coupled with the ability to multitask while paying attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to compile data and create content for a wide variety of audiences
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; proven ability to communicate respectfully to a diverse audience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently under mínimal supervision, as well as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment, planning and prioritizing a varied workload in order to meet fixed deadlines
  • Ability to work flexible hours (i.e. occasional evening and weekends), when required
  • Photography and video skills would be an asset.
