Description
PURPOSE
The Accounting Manager, Consolidation is accountable to the Assistant Controller, Corporate Services for a variety of accounting functions at the Corporate accounting office, ensuring the integrity of all financial information is recorded in strict compliance with corporate policies and procedures and existing internal controls.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Corporate Accounting Policies, Procedures and Compliance
Develops, implements and monitors internal corporate accounting policies and procedures to ensure integrity of data, compliance with GAAP and other regulatory (e.g. tax) requirements.
Specific Duties:
- Responsible for all aspects of the consolidation of Morguard's financial statements. This includes managing Yardi roll up and consolidation books and maintaining support schedules for consolidated journal entries such as elimination entries, business combination accounting as well as required inputs to prepare the consolidated cash flow statement.
- Assist in completion of the quarterly/annual consolidated financial reporting package of a public company.
- Responsible for the quarterly/year
- Assist in preparing notes to financial statements and other public company reporting and investor relations materials.
- Liaise with the external auditors for quarterly and year end reporting purposes and coordinate with the internal auditors to assist them in their quarterly/year end testing of controls and processes.
- Assess current accounting and internal control systems, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes.
- Provide formal supervision to individual employees. Mentor and coach team members to further develop competencies. Lead by example and model behaviours that are consistent with the company's values.
Financial Reporting
Preparation of timely and accurate annual financial statements for the organization, including collecting, validating and organizing information, in order to accurately assess and report on operating activities and results.
-Annual Budgeting
Designs the tools, manages, reconciles, summarizes for approval and monitors the budgeting process for head office, and all regional offices and properties, in order to facilitate resource planning, tracking and adjustment procedures for the effective use of corporate and investor resources.
-Continuous Improvement of Accounting Policies and Procedures
Provides input into the design and implementation, as well as ensures effective communication of new company policies and procedures to site locations and the accounting function, while reviewing existing policies and procedures to estimate their effectiveness and recommend revisions to ensure continuous improvement effort.
Any other job related duties and/or projects that may be assigned.Minimum Requirements
Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Business or Commerce or equivalent
- CPA accounting designation
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant accounting experience (including consolidations and IFRS reporting)
- Excellent computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of accounting software (preferably YARDI 7).
