Position Description

Financial Controller

As Financial Controller this role supports the Matheson Group of Companies, you will protect the company assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.

You will also monitor and confirm the financial condition of the company by conducting internal audits and providing information to external auditors.

Maximizing return and limiting risk on cash by setting strict controls will be a key part of the role. You have full understanding and can produce month-end deliverables including full financial statements and project backlog report. This role will regularly collaborate with Sr. Management and Project Managers to assess company profitability, project performance and overall overhead cost management.


Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:

  • Oversee complete project set-up and job closings in accounting software.
  • Provide leadership to the accounting team.
  • Produce timely and accurate monthly financial reporting package for Senior Management.
  • Manage the aged accounts receivable and the accounts payable.
  • Accumulate, interpret, and analyze financial data for monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Oversee weekly accounts payable payments.
  • Act as liaison with Operations, providing the respective Project Managers with information (both financial and nonfinancial) to assist them in managing their projects.
  • Working closely and cooperatively with colleagues and business unit Managers to ensure adherence to all accounting and finance policies and procedures as per the Company and project contracts.
  • Coordinate yearend audit file preparation and assist in any other regulatory audits with external auditors.
  • Provide adhoc financial analysis, research, and reports for Senior Management as requested.
  • Prepares correspondence, reports, forms, and specialized documents as required.
  • Record journal entries, maintain and reconcile general ledger, job cost and other monthly reports as required.
  • Comply with internal controls at all times.
  • Any other related duties as may be required to meet department and Company objectives

Position Requirements

Educational & Professional Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree/College diploma in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration and a minimum of three (7) years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (Construction Industry Preferred).
  • CPA Designation Required
