Position Summary:


The Frosh Orientation Support Specialist works in close collaboration with the Frosh Orientation Development Specialist to organize and facilitate the goals of creating an inclusive, safe, and sustainable orientation experience for new students.

These goals are part of a larger effort to enhance the new students experience and facilitate their transition and integration at McGill University.

The incumbent assists student associations and groups in their respective operations as well as in their collaborative efforts with the University administration for the smooth planning and delivery of Frosh activities.


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under supervision of the Office of Dean of Students, and in consultation with staff at Campus Life and Engagement, the incumbent has the following responsibilities:

  • Following up on Frosh project planning and timeline
  • Assessing the ongoing needs of stakeholders and determining priorities in the development of orientation supports and training.
  • Following up on the Frosh registration and volunteer recruitment and training
  • Fostering relationships with university stakeholders for the planning and delivery of training
  • Collaborating with university stakeholders, staff, students, and project stakeholders to plan and deliver Frosh volunteer training activities.
  • Facilitate the logístical support (e.g., room booking), coordination, including frosh registration work processes, in collaboration with faculty and nonfaculty froshes
  • Liaising with and supporting student organizations to develop student supports, facilitating educational programs and training, etc.
  • Preparing a short report due by the end of this contract with recommendations as they relate to training and logístical support.
  • Other emergent duties, as required
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Experience planning and coordinating Orientation/Frosh events, as well as other events
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain meaningful partnerships with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team in an environment of high volume and potentially competing priorities
  • Experience in developing and delivery of training materials would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of a studentcentered, developmental, multiculturally sensitive approach
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data and prepare written reports for various audiences in a variety of formats
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Good judgment, selfmotivation, and flexibility
  • Familiarity with online/webbased content management systems
  • Ability to adapt to new and emerging technologies
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

  • Current student or recent graduate of McGill University
  • Experience working in and with student organizations, especially student government
  • Experience designing and delivering programs to a variety of audiences using various mediums, including online and inperson
  • Experience working in higher education (particularly in student life), as student staff or fulltime staff

This position requires 40 hours per week for May - August 2023 and 10 hours/week during the academic year.
