About the position

In support of the NGC's strategic pillars to strengthen community connections through transformative art experiences; build a collection and program that inspires human connection; and to empower, support and build a diverse and collaborative team, the Gallery is hiring one position of Curatorial Assistant.

The Curatorial Assistant position supports multiple facets of the curatorial division related to acquisitions, programming, scheduling and coordinating, and stakeholder and community engagement.

Job Summary


Under the supervision of the departmental Senior Curator, the Curatorial Assistant supports the department of Contemporary Art in the development of the collection by cataloguing, documenting and maintaining works of art already in the collection and new acquisitions; carries out research related to exhibitions, and other programming which may include direct contact with artists, art dealers, other museum colleagues and private collectors.

The incumbent also researches and supports the preparation of various didactic materials for installations and exhibitions; drafts replies in response to public or professional inquiries; assists in outreach, development and community relations and carries out various administrative functions related to programming, acquisitions and collection management.


Requirements:


  • Master's degree in art history with a specialization in contemporary art or equivalent experience within arts/cultural organizations;
  • Experience working with artists and communities in a gallery/museum/cultural organization or other professional setting (could include coop spaces, artistrun centres, as well as communitybased knowledge centres and/or archives);
  • Ability to coordinate, control and organize multiple functions and activities;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines and to work well under pressure;
  • A collaborativelyminded colleague with the ability to work independently and as a team member;
  • Crosscultural curatorial experience would be an asset.
