Canadian Tax Manager

Nanton, Alberta, Canada:

Current Opportunities

Baker Tilly Catalyst LLP strives to create a positive work environment through work/life initiatives, professional growth and development programs and challenging assignments.

We are a professional firm of business advisors, accountants and support staff dedicated to helping our clients accomplish their business and financial goals.

We succeed through the efforts of firm members responding to the specific needs of each client and the broader communities in which we live.

While tax compliance and return preparation is a necessary requirement under Canadian law, it is not where our tax planning or strategizing starts.

We proactively work with private companies and their owners to plan and structure tax solutions that add value, long before the tax return ever gets prepared.

Adding value can mean different things to different people; for some it may mean reducing an overall tax burden today.

For others it may mean adequately planning for the future, such as a tax effective transition of a business to another generation or key employees.

In Taxation Advisory at Baker Tilly Catalyst, our work is based on our client's objectives - what keeps them up at night? What is at the heart of the matter? We work with our clients to answer these questions and then develop a customized tax-effective strategy to deal with the issue.

We are looking for a
Tax Manger to join our Taxation Advisory group.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Contribute to the leadership of the tax practice.
  • Business development and relationship building with prospective and existing clients.
  • Tax planning project implementation and coordination.
  • Mentoring of staff; team building.
  • Technical updating of Canadian tax law.
  • Creation and documentation of internal processes for efficiency and risk management purposes; review of internal processes for improvement.
  • Ongoing technical and research support.

Qualifications for this role:

  • A designated professional with at least 5 years public accounting or legal experience.
  • Historical success attracting new clients and/or managing existing client relationships to generate tax planning work.
  • Technical knowledge of tax planning for private companies and their shareholders, including corporate structuring and reorganizations, family trusts, remuneration planning and sale planning.
  • Ability to convey complex concepts to clients, prospects and internal staff.
  • Experience in coaching and developing staff.
  • Completion of the Indepth tax program.
  • Completion of the CPA Canada's Corporate Reorganization program would be an asset.
