CLASS 1 WINCH TRACTOR DRIVER

GENERAL PURPOSE:
Ensuring safety is a priority; Class 1 Winch Tractor Driver will operate winch truck and other vehicles to transport railway equipment to destinations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
- Oversee all aspects of vehicles, such as the condition of equipment, loading and unloading, and safety and security of cargo.
- Perform pretrip and posttrip inspections of vehicle systems and equipment such as tires, lights, brakes, fluid levels, check vehicle inspection date and licensing.
- Perform emergency roadside repairs.
- Obtain special permits and other documents required to transport cargo on routes.
- Record cargo information, distance traveled, fuel consumption and other information in logbook
- Comply with Federal/Provincial legislative requirements such as legal weight, speed limits, permitting, load security, hours of service (log books), etc.
- Various loading and unloading of heavy materials such as tools and equipment (spikes, tie plates, joint bars etc.) to and from various vehicles and machine
- Shoveling rocks and dirt for manual grading of surfaces and clearing ballasts
- Clearing railway crossings of brush, tall grass, and snow using hand held tools and equipment
- General understanding of how to operate small equipment such as, but not limited to rail saws, drills, grinders, puller, air compressor, bolter, and back pack blower
- Other duties as assigned
- Ability to operate a winch truck as well as any other required tools and equipment in a safe and responsible manner
- Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
- Ability to perform various types of physical labor including moderate to heavy lifting, standing, bending, shoveling, etc.
- A team player with effective communication skills including listening, writing and speaking
- Good client service and public interaction skills
- Fluent in reading, writing and understanding the English language
- Be respectful and courteous to others, pose cultural awareness of others and demonstrate good work ethics
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- 1year fulltime work experience as a Driver
- Must have a Class 1 License
- Must have experience running a Winch Tractor
- Railway experience would be an assets
- Willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions
