The Population and Public Health (PPH) Division focuses on improving people's overall health and well-being by promoting health; preventing disease, disability, and injury; protecting people from harm; and ensuring particular focus on key groups including Indigenous peoples, women, and children.

The intent of these actions is to promote a healthier population and reduce current and future demands on the healthcare system.


The Prevention and Health Promotion branch is responsible for population health and wellness strategies related to healthy eating and food security, physical activity, healthy weights, injury prevention, healthy built environments, healthy aging, and alcohol, tobacco and cannabis harm reduction.

As a key element of an overall strategy to improve population health, the branch supports clinical prevention across the life course.

The branch also supports population health promotion strategies in settings, including schools, local communities and in the workplace.

To support this work, the branch incorporates social marketing and website activities, and provides governance and procurement oversight over contracts and/or grants with non-government organizations and others.


This position is responsible for program components inclusive of expert advice, identification of best practices, policy development, performance measurement and monitoring related to the Lifetime Prevention Schedule (LPS).

To guide clinical prevention in BC, the LPS assesses the highest priority, evidence-informed clinical prevention services for the general asymptomatic population across the lifespan and by sex.

It is the minimum standard of evidence used in clinical prevention policy and program development in BC.

This position works both independently and as a member of the LPS team to manage assigned research policy development projects focused on the review and revision of existing ministry programs or legislation.


Job Requirements

:

Bachelor's Degree in business administration or public administration, or related field and a minimum 2 years of *recent, related experience;
OR

:


  • An equivalent combination of education and
    recent, related experience may be considered.
-
Recent, related experience must include the following

:


  • Experience formulating, drafting, editing, and presenting executive advice and public correspondence.
  • Experience researching policy issues and conducting policy analysis. Experience managing projects and/or project components.
    Master's Degree.
:


  • Experience or a degree in health economics or statistics.
  • Experience providing secretariat support to the work of executive committees. Experience with procurement, contract initiation and management.
