AccessSMT is a leading supplier of solutions driven offerings in Construction Divisions 8, 28 and 10 which include Architectural Hardware, Access Control and Building Security Systems, Hollow Metal Doors and Frames, Wood Doors and Frames, Specialty Doors, Construction Specialties, Lockers, Partitions, Washroom Accessories and Visual and Display Boards.

We are currently seeking an Estimator to be based out of our Winnipeg branch that will collaborate and assist other branches in the organization.

This role is directly responsible for the bidding and tendering of potential projects sourced for the company.

Responsibilities also include the analysis and review of architectural drawings, specs, addendums and plans to properly quote and recommend products, as required per each projects scope of work, while simultaneously ensuring that estimates are competitive and profitable to the company.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret architectural specifications, drawings, blueprints, and schematics to determine product requirements; ensure compliance to required building code and with related legislative bodies.
  • Prepare project estimates of cost, time, and material based on project requirements based on the reviewed specifications, while following the processes in place to ensure proper completion of work.
  • Perform quantity take-offs based on project specifications for products ensuring accuracy of quantity requirements, and adherence to schedules where appropriate
  • Maintain tendering processes, and cost monitoring and reporting systems
  • Advise clients and consultants of recommendations for items including product type, compatibility, brand, material, and other specifications that may better suit the customer, or may have been missed in the project planning stage.
Obtain competitive pricing from multiple vendors, freight companies, and brokers to provide the company with the best opportunity to successfully secure an order, and maintain vendor relationships


  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including, but not limited to, subcontractors, vendors, and project managers to prepare economically feasible estimates, clarify project details, and troubleshoot specifics throughout the process
  • Review and comply with tender requirements as outlined in the front end documents, and scope of work requirements (when applicable) of the project manual.
  • Ensure appropriate costing is applied when projects are phased, or to meet the demands of the construction schedule (up to and including applied cost escalators).
  • Ensure work is completed on time and in full based on deadlines provided (both internal and external)
  • Observe and adhere to all safety policies and identify and report unsafe work practices or conditions
  • Provide an exceptional level of customer service to internal and external stakeholders

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This job requires mínimal leadership and supervisory responsibilities, where employees work independently and are only responsible for monitoring themselves.
  • Work is structured in such a way that the tasks to be completed are presented to the incumbent in the order in which they are to be done with little to no alteration possible in the sequence.

Accountability

  • Takes personal ownership and responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work commitments, follows organizational guidelines, professional standards, regulations and principles. Demonstrates reliably and integrity daily.
  • Completes assignments and work commitments on time, following organizational standards, with limited errors and highquality workmanship, deviations require permission.

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 years or more related experience

Practical/Technical Skills

  • Proven ability to estimate project work
  • Proven ability to read architectural specifications and blueprints

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a minimum of an intermediate ability to:

  • Operate computer software including Microsoft Office
ERP system, ComSense, Sales Force and other related software
