Grand River Hospital and St.

Mary's General Hospital are Building the Future of Care Together (BFCT) by developing a shared vision for the future of health care and new hospital infrastructure to care for more patients in our community closer to home for decades to come.


Led by the Joint VP of Redevelopment, the Building the Future of Care Together Redevelopment Team works collaboratively across both Grand River and St.

Mary's General hospitals to plan, design, and build all components of the redevelopment project together as a new, single organization.


This plan includes:

A new, state-of-the-art hospital site in Kitchener-Waterloo; renewing and repurposing the existing mid-town K-W Campus as an ambulatory and urgent care centre; renewing and expanding the Freeport Campus in Kitchener for modernized and expanded rehabilitation capacity.


All sites would be governed by the new, single organization following the planned merger of Grand River Hospital and St.

Mary's General Hospital in 2025.

How Project Engagement Consultant supports our teams at Grand River Hospital and St


Mary's General Hospital:


Reporting to the Integrated Director, Project Communications and Engagement, this role supports the planning and delivery of communications and engagement activities and services required for the Building the Future of Care Together project, a joint project of SMGH and GRH with support from the SMGH and GRH Foundations.

The successful incumbent is responsible for providing communications support specifically for the BFCT project.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:


  • Support the planning and delivery of the project communications and engagement strategy
  • Work in partnership with redevelopment project team to support project activities and priorities
  • Plan and execute activities and events in support of the engagement of physicians, clinicians and staff for Grand River Hospital and St. Mary's General Hospital and external audiences.
  • Develop meeting and presentation materials including PowerPoint slide decks and briefing notes.
  • Provide conceptual, writing, editing and graphical design support to develop communication and engagement materials. Liaise with design and print vendors as required.
  • Schedule and track engagement activities by audience.
  • Summarize and analyze engagement activities and provide key findings and recommend suggestions or action plans based on collected feedback. Ensure timely response and followup to internal and external audience requests and inquiries.
  • Engage with the Hospitals' internal communications teams, proactively pursuing opportunities for collaboration, partnership, and integration for the Hospital and in some cases, the Foundations, as required.
  • Ability to work with multiple audiences on plans and products such as publications, websites, social media and events is essential.

At Grand River Hospital and St.

Mary's General Hospital, the Project Engagement Consultant has:


  • An undergraduate degree in communications, marketing, human resources, or a related discipline is preferred
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) training is an asset
  • Training and/or experience in Change Management theory and practice is a strong asset.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a similar role or communications, learning and organizational development, or a related discipline
  • Experience within a health care environment is preferred.
  • Teamfocused approach including engagement, flexibility, and an excellent attendance record
  • Demonstrated problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple tasks and time demands
