Job Purpose:The psychosocial and emotional health of our students is a key element of academic success. This role supports students with addictions and mental health challenges who are unable to access community intervention services.

In this role, the Mental Health and Addictions Liaison (MHAL) will provide short-term addictions counseling, assessments, and referrals to community-based support.

The MHAL will also utilize the Prairie Valley School Division Roadmap to Mental Health and Addictions Services to coordinate available external addiction services, therapy services through outside agencies, and develop resources for students.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Knowledge of assessment, intervention, and consultation methods related to childhood and adolescent mental health issues, addictions, and learning disorders.
  • Superior case management tracking, documentation, writing, and reporting skills.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to professional standards and ethics of the relevant professional regulatory bodies in Saskatchewan.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with students, families, teachers, and community providers.
  • Ability to manage confidential material and maintain staff and student privacy.

Qualifications:

Qualified applicants include those that meet the requirements to be a registered psychologist or social worker.

  • For Psychologists:
  • Master's Degree in Psychology or Educational Psychology.
  • Registered and in good standing with the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists.
  • Certified in school psychology competencies from the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists.
  • For Social Workers:
  • Master's Degree in Social Work.
  • Certified in mental health and addictions counseling.
  • Registered and in good standing with the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers.
  • Experience working in the education sector is an asset.
  • Background in addictions and counseling within an educational setting is preferred.

Working Conditions:


  • 40 hours per week, 10 months per year
  • Employment conditions as per COE agreement.
  • This position requires a flexible work day and requires work during evenings, weekends and school breaks.
  • Some travel between schools and community organizations is required using a private vehicle with employerpaid mileage.
