The Opportunity

  • Ducks Unlimited Canada's Institute for Wetland and Waterfowl Research is seeking a Wetland and Waterfowl Field Technician Crew Lead for a 1year term position with potential for renewal of up to 3 years. This position is integral to a new research project that seeks to understand how wetland health in the Prairie Pothole Region influences waterfowl productivity. The Wetland and Waterfowl Research Technician Crew Lead will work under the supervision of a Research Scientist to lead field work and a field crew as well as support field work logistics and planning, data management, and reporting when not in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead the collection of field data on waterfowl productivity, wetland water quality, and biodiversity supporting the mission and conservation vision of Ducks Unlimited Canada.
  • Assist in organizing, managing, and annotating field data from drones, camera traps, autonomous recording units, invertebrate samples, and water sampling.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining field equipment.
  • Provide supervision of other field staff.
  • As a DUC ambassador, assist in delivering conservation messages, primarily with external audiences, that will establish and/or maintain stakeholder or partner relationships.

Requirements:


  • Have graduated from a postsecondary institution (i.e. College, University, Technical School) or will have graduated (completed all course requirements) by the start date with a degree or diploma in Fish and Wildlife, Environmental Monitoring, Biology, Environmental Studies, or a related discipline;
  • Be eligible for fulltime employment in Canada;
  • Possess a valid driver's license;
  • Must be able to perform field work and cope with poor weather;
  • Overnight and extended travel away from home will be required;
  • Demonstrated capacity in a leadership role and working in a team;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask;
  • Experience collecting field data and working in the field;
  • Experience with invertebrate, plant, or bird identification is an asset;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs;

located at Oak Hammock Marsh, near Stonewall, Manitoba and

require at least 4 months per year posted at field sites across Prairie Canada.

The gross annual salary for this position is

$52,000 - $65,000 CDN plus benefits, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date for this position is between February - 10, 2023 or as soon as possible.
