The Corrections Branch plays a leading role in the criminal justice system by protecting the community through offender management and control.

The Branch manages community work service and supports offenders to make positive changes in their behaviour and attitudes.

Adult Custody is one of two divisions of the Corrections Branch and is responsible for the care of approximately 2,600 male and female inmates.

Adult Custody provides custodial supervision for adults sentenced to incarceration and those remanded to custody.


The Chaplain independently provides ministry to residents, staff and their respective families counselling; facilitating a variety of services for represented faith groups; developing instruction and personal improvement courses to meet the spiritual needs of all faiths or those with no faith affiliation; liaising with community faith groups regarding the needs and concerns of persons affected by the criminal justice system; developing supportive relationships with centre staff, residents, and community groups; and administering ancillary and support activities.

The position title is not linked to any specific faith group or denomination. It is intended to be an inclusive descriptor of a role with great diversity.

The Chaplain provides humanitarian, faith or non-faith based resources and counselling to those away from home; and, demonstrates a respect for all individuals by servicing and counselling people within an inclusive and holistic framework.


Job Requirements:


  • Graduation from a theological seminary/college or recognized standing with valid, current and good standing accreditation;
    OR, equivalent accreditation or recognition from another faith/spiritual community. Supporting documentation is required.
  • Three years of leading/counselling in a faith community;
    OR, an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Experience as a chaplain in a correctional, justice, or other institutional setting.

Willingness statement:

  • Willing to provide humanitarian and compassionate care to all faiths and to those without an acknowledged faith.

About this Position:

This position is part time (0.77 FTE, 53.9 hours biweekly)
This position has full time on-site requirements.
