Job Overview


The light housekeeping and companionship program provides affordable, regularly scheduled cleaning services to seniors in the Renfrew-Collingwood community and offers a friendly visit with each appointment to socially isolated clients to increase connection and offset the adverse effects of loneliness.

We are looking for a casual, on-call housekeeper/friendly visitor to help fill the growing demand for light housekeeping and social connections.


Responsibilities

1.


Communication:


  • The housekeeper is expected to communicate with seniors, their family members, and the Housekeeping Program Manager in a respectful manner at all times
  • The housekeeper is expected to communicate with the senior and/or family members to schedule service appointments for a mutually agreed time and dates
  • For any issues, disagreements, or problems, the housekeeper is to contact the Housekeeping Program Manager as soon as possible
  • The housekeeper is expected to continually update their digital calendar to document appointments. Ability to use digital devices is required
  • The housekeeper is expected to communicate any changes to the client's wellbeing or living situation to the Housekeeping Program Manager in a timely manner

Health and wellbeing:


  • The housekeeper will conduct a selfscreening for Covid19 or any other illness such as cold or flu prior to entering a client's home.
  • The housekeeper will wear a mask when in the client's home when appropriate and practice diligent hand hygiene
  • The housekeeper will follow emergent CNH policies as they relate to Covid19 which are based on provincial recommendations
  • The housekeeper will adhere to CNH's health and safety policies including ergonomic best practices

3. Social Visiting - Enjoy getting to know your clients by spending time with them over a cup of coffee and sharing a treat. A friendly face and caring ear can do wonders for fostering a sense of connection among those facing social isolation due to limited mobility or a host of other factors.


4. Housekeeping

  • The Light Housekeeping Service is strictly a nonmedical home support service (no assistance with personal care tasks, i.e., help with washing hair, dressing, etc.).
  • The specific tasks may vary from home to home but can include the following:

Entry way:

  • General tidying and dusting
  • Sweeping, mopping and / or vacuuming (including stairs)
  • Cleaning mirrors and other surfaces
  • Wipe and sanitize banisters

Living room:

  • General tidying and dusting
  • Sweeping, mopping and/ or vacuuming
  • Cleaning of any glass, inside of windows that are easily reachable without the use of a chair, step stool, or ladder
  • Wipe and sanitize table tops

Kitchen:

  • Sweeping, mopping and/or vacuuming
  • Clear away any clean dishes and wash any dirty dishes
  • Stove: Wipe the exterior only (no interior cleaning)
  • Microwave: Wipe and sanitize the interior and exterior
  • Fridge: throwaway any old/ spoiled food. Wipes any spills in the interior. Clean any visible stains on the exterior door. Wipe and sanitize.
  • Cabinets: wipe and sanitize the exterior only
  • Counters and dining table: wipe and sanitize the surfaces
  • Take away trash and recycling to the outside bins and refill liner

Bathroom:

  • Sweeping and mopping
  • Clean and sanitize the toilet, tub and surround (for health and safety reasons, do not clean or enter bathroom if there are substantially visible bodily fluids or fecal matter)
  • Wipe/sanitize surfaces such as counter tops, cabinet face, mirrors,
  • Take away trash and refill liner

Bedrooms:

  • General tidying and dusting
  • Sweeping, mopping and/or vacuuming
  • Removing and laundering of bedding and making the bed

Laundry:

  • Wash, dry, fold and put away laundry

What the program excludes from cleaning:
The housekeeper does not perform the following cleaning duties:

  • Clean inside the stove
  • Window coverings
  • Windows and hard to reach areas that requires the housekeeper to use a step stool or ladder.
  • Deep cleaning of any surfaces that requires heavy scrubbing
  • Outside of the home such as balcony, back yards, porches, etc. The housekeeper may take trash outside or hang laundry on a clothes line but no other outdoor duties.
  • If the client requests the housekeeper to complete any tasks that the housekeeper feels is dangerous or falls outside of the agreement, they may refuse the task but are required to communicate this refusal to the Housekeeping Program Manager.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Good communication, interpersonal and problemsolving skills
  • Patience and care for seniors' needs
  • Experience with general housecleaning
  • Ability to use digital devices to update calendar and fill out timesheets
  • Speaks English and Cantonese fluently. Mandarin or other additional languages would be an asset.
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Proper work documents if the housekeeper is not a permanent resident or citizen such as an open work pe
