Controller, North American Commercial Services position working out of Edmonton, AB.
The Controller, North American Commercial Services is accountable for the performance of the North American Commercial Services Finance function. This includes supporting both Canadian and United States based operations and activities.
The Controller will ensure accurate and timely financial accounting and reporting, regulatory support, budgeting and forecasting as well as provide finance support to business development activities.

The Controller, North American Commercial Services is accountable to the Senior Vice President (SVP) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), operating within the context and prescribed limits established by the SVP/CFO and the President, North American Commercial Services.
Key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
Planning:leading the development of the long-term strategizing for the Business Unit and ensuring the strategy considers risk, stakeholders, and the broader business environment. Provide advice to assist executive leadership in evaluating business decisions and changes to strategic positioning.
Operational Excellence: defining strategies and plans to change organizational systems, processes, structures, and/or culture required to support the vision and strategy of the Business Unit. Build internal support and energy for operational changes.

Execution: executing strategies and collaborating across the Business Unit regarding analysis of costs, risks and benefits of identified investment options.

Talent: ensuring the right people are on the team to meet business objectives while defining and maintaining the right structure to meet the needs of the business.

Relationships: identifying, building and managing strong relationships with peers, external stakeholders, and industry. Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and fosters a sense of belonging.

Collaboration: collaborates with team members and peers across the enterprise to enable execution of the Business Unit strategy.
What's required to be successful
- 10+ years of experience at the senior management level along with 3+ years of regulatory accounting experience.
- Worked in a complex organization (midsized or larger). Exposure to complex regulatory or commercial enterprises with a wide breadth of experience with different utilities and areas across Canada and the United States.
- Built and led large diverse teams in a unionized environment. Ensured that effective people practices created high levels of performance. Ensured the creation of a positive, inclusive, and energizing organizational climate.
- Developed and executed plans that supported and aligned with the organization's strategic priorities. Achieved objectives despite setbacks and obstacles and learned from those experiences.
- Enhanced understanding of effective business and technical communication at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Led organizational change: developed strategies, measured success, and ensured sustainment (e.g. integration of a new acquisition, organizational restructuring).
- Built strategic relationships across and external to the organization to drive outcomes.
- Possess a strong business acumen.
- Ability to successfully oversee and deliver all cycle accounting requirements and financial elements under IFRS.
- Working knowledge of valuation, tax and US GAAP.
- Ability to successfully deliver financial elements of a regulatory filing and create value/drive profitability.
- Provide financial analysis and advice that supports quality business decisions.
- Ability to assess opportunities for process improvement and implement accordingly.
- Able to travel regularly between operations in Canada and the United States.
