Under the direction of the Supervisor and/or the Distribution Foreman - Service or Field, the Utility Operator is responsible for a wide variety of entry level field and service activities.

Within the scope of the job, is responsible to ensure safety, reliability and efficiency in accordance with company, provincial and municipal codes and procedures.

Ensure all work and driving results in a safe condition for the employees. Perform activities such as meter set maintenance, installation of AMR devices, turn-offs and line locating.

What You Get to Do:


  • Assist with installation and maintenance of natural gas utility systems.
  • Support repair of the underground Natural Gas Distribution System.
  • Perform hand digging, shoveling, and backfilling.
  • Operating vehicles, equipment, and small tools.
  • Perform entry level field and service work such as meter set maintenance, turnoffs and line locating.
  • Landscaping and site cleanup
  • Perform leak surveys to check for potential underground and above ground leaks
  • Driving up to 2 tons
  • Lifting up to 50lbs

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Grade 12 Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • Related experience in the upstream gas utility system, meter reading and AMR devices is desirable.
  • Knowledge of company standards, policies and procedures pertaining to the gas distribution system is desirable.
  • Familiarity with various regulatory codes governing the natural gas industry is desirable.
  • Must display good verbal and written communication skills, decision making skills, and strong work ethics, and be able to maintain and promote good working relationships and excellent customer service.
  • Must be able to obtain the appropriate company required certificates and successfully complete the required courses.
  • Must have a valid Alberta Class "5" driver's license.
  • Ability to interpret plans, working drawings and material specification is desirable.
  • Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude and dexterity in the use of tools and equipment.
  • May be required to work shift work in operations when necessary and may be called out to assist in emergencies on a 24 hour basis.
  • Must be prepared to work in all types of weather.
  • This position is a Safety-Sensitive position and has additional preemployment requirements.
