Position Summary

  • The Human Resources (HR) Business Partner is responsible for providing a full range of HR generalist services to an assigned client group within Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital in the areas of labour relations, recruitment and retention, position administration, employee and leadership development, attendance/disability management and salary administration. The HR Business Partner will support both the HR and management team in maintaining strong union and employee relationships.
  • The HR Business Partner contributes significantly to the Hospital's strategic goals and objectives by actively participating in program development and process improvement.
  • PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supports labour relations activities including, administration, interpretation and negotiation of collective agreements.
  • Participates as an active member to the Hospital negotiating team(s).
  • Assisting with the resolution of grievances in a manner that provides fairness and due process. Where required, assists in the preparation of reports for mediation and rights arbitration.
  • Leads recruitment and retention, position administration, employee and leadership development, attendance/disability management and salary administration within assigned client group.
  • Assesses staffing requirements in accordance with the appropriate collective agreements.
  • Actively guides, coaches and counsels management and employees on employment, employee relations, collective agreements, policies, procedures and legislation.
  • Provides ongoing support and mentorship to the HR Team in areas of current labour relations, best practices and legislation.
  • Oversees recruitment and selection process including, consulting with managers regarding staffing needs, managing requisition for staff requests, advertising, liaising with external agencies, interviewing, reference checking, and oversees the completion of employment contracts.
  • Participates in the new hire orientation program and assists with the growth and development of this program.
  • Assists with the coordination and attends job/careers fairs within the community, at Universities, Colleges, High Schools and Technical institutions, as required.
  • Collaborates to identify and direct the development of employee skills to support current and anticipated business needs.
  • Initiates and coordinates the ongoing creation and updating of job descriptions.
  • Facilitates and mediates between managers and employees concerning HR related issues and employee relations.
  • Participates in the collective bargaining processes by providing support to the Manager, Human Resources.
  • Researches and monitors competitive trends in compensation by participating in salary surveys and providing analysis/comparison.
  • Participates in standing and adhoc committees, task groups, accreditations teams and continuous quality improvement teams, providing human resources perspective to issues within these groups, as assigned by the Manager, Human Resources.
  • Organizes and conducts manager/employee information meetings on employment policy and performance and attendance management and labour relations, as required.
  • Participates in the annual service award recognition event.
  • Champions change initiatives.
  • Champions communication drives appropriate topdown, bottomup and lateral communication.

e, balanced scorecard:
turnover, exit interviews, performance management, etc.)

  • Prepares reports utilizing our Human Resources information System (HRIS), Quadrant HR (QHR).
  • Ensures that approved Human Resources policies and procedures are uploaded and maintained on Medworxx (Intranet).
  • Completes project work as assigned in alignment with strategic goals and objectives assigned by the Manager, Human Resources.
