Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Community Program Coordinator – Community Centres, is responsible for daily cleaning, room set up, and minor repairs in City-operated community centres. Works with staff and volunteers to create an atmosphere that encourages the community to participate in all aspects of the Centre.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mops floor and operate floor scrubber machine as necessary to ensure floors are clean and dry.

Empties garbage and recycling in rooms and offices.

Replenishes paper towels, toilet tissue and soap in all washrooms and ensures washrooms are clean.

Empties garbage in dumpster outside.

May be required to perform minor repairs.

Cleans windows and dust.

Shovels walkway and applies ice melt / sand as needed.

Set up & take down rooms as needed (includes tables, chairs, AV equipment, wiping down).

Participants in staff training and meetings as required

Performs other duties as may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

Grade 12 education and experience with custodial/janitorial work

Skills/Abilities:

Must be able to relate in a warm and welcoming way to members of the community

Must be able to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing

Ability to operate floor scrubber machine

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :

Must have current standard first aid and CPR or get certified within 3 months of starting should one receive the position;

Will be required to travel to various work locations and provide own transportation

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Part-time

Irregular hours (evenings/weekends).
