POWERLINE TECHNICIAN APPRENTICE - KENORA
1st & 2nd Year Apprentices will be considered - Up to 2 Positions
Lines & Operations Division - PWU/CUPE Collective Agreement
$ to $45.8535/hour (May 1, 2023 rates)
***: Under the general direction of a Line Supervisor and the technical direction and guidance of a Lead Hand, is responsible
for work assigned to construct, operate, and maintain overhead and underground electrical distribution systems in a safe
successfully complete the 4-year Powerline Technician Apprenticeship Program.
DUTIES:
- General Apprentice working towards a Journeyperson "Powerline Technician" position over a four to five year training period.

- Work concerned with the construction, maintenance and modification of urban and rural distribution systems (overhead and
- underground).
- Climbing of poles and structures of varying heights.
- Work on both energized and deenergized lines, the former including 25kV.
- Operate equipment of specialized sorts (including aerial devices) to dig holes, handle and set or remove poles, string conductor
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 diploma with a proven strong mechanical and mathematical aptitude.
- Must have good reading comprehension, writing skills, communication skills, and the ability to read and interpret distribution system
- Must have good customer relations, interpersonal skills and teamwork skills with a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Valid Ontario Driver's License with an excellent driving record

A Driver's Abstract will be processed by Synergy North to _
- verify that the applicant has no more than 6 demerit points._
PREFERRED:
- A Graduate of a postsecondary Electrical Technician or Technologist Program; or a Graduate of a postseondary two year Powerline
combination of post-secondary education and experience.
- Two (2) to five (5) years experience in the construction/electrical industry and the demonstrated ability to work at heights.
- Current certification in First Aid, CPR, and WHMIS.**
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: - Must attend and successfully complete the MEARIE Powerline Technician Program
- 4 to 5 year apprenticeship, combined on

- Must be physically capable to meet the job's physical and work environment requirements (as determined by a physical demands
- analysis).
- Must have an ability and willingness to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
- Must have and maintain a valid Class "AZ" driver's licence (or obtain same within 90 days of employment).
- Must be available to work overtime, oncall, rotating standby, shift work, and outoftown as required. Must be able to respond to
- Must also be willing to attend work in Thunder Bay if necessary to attain the skills, training and experience to meet the requirements

- Must have the ability to work at heights up to 70 feet in an aerial device and/or on a pole.
- Must successfully complete a Police Information Check and Drug & Alcohol Testing.
- Proficiency, or willingness to obtain proficiency, in occupational health and safety legislation, Synergy North's safety rules and work
