Department Information:


The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories' (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services.

INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies.

INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.


Job Information:


The Project Manager, Energy Infrastructure Development (Project Manager) is the lead on identifying, planning, and developing large energy projects that achieve the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT)'s vision to ensure the energy system in the Northwest Territories (NWT) is secure, affordable and sustainable.


The Project Manager works closely with colleagues in the Energy Division, other GNWT Departments, other levels of government, utilities, communities and Indigenous Governments and Organizations, and the private sector to identify, plan and implement large-scale energy projects, including alternative and renewable electricity, heating and transportation projects.


The Project Manager must have significant knowledge of project management principles and practice; Significant knowledge and experience in Aboriginal Consultation and Indigenous engagement; Working knowledge of environmental and regulatory requirements for energy infrastructure development; Knowledge of conventional and alternative energy systems; and Knowledge of electrical generation, transmission and distribution.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

An undergraduate degree in a related discipline with five years of experience in leading energy projects in Canada from conception to the start of construction, and a minimum of two years' experience in consultation and engagement.
