Position Overview


Reporting to the Director, Talent Programs at the Hunter Hub and working collaboratively across the team and with external stakeholders, the Manager, Talent Partnerships and Engagement is responsible for building and managing partnerships and projects that help to realize the Hunter Hub's mission and values.


The Manager has experience with, and an advanced understanding of, experiential learning, demonstrated experience in productively engaging diverse stakeholders, and building lasting partnerships.


Success in this role will be establishing and managing partnerships, with a wide range of stakeholders, including but not limited to student groups, post-secondary institutions, innovation community members, and the government, that improve the quality and quantity of experiential learning opportunities made available by the Hunter Hub.

The Manager, Talent Partnerships and Engagement will be expected to build, coordinate, and deliver programs and strategic events including large-scale pan-university initiatives that enable the Hunter Hub to achieve our strategy of reaching a large number of students, faculty, and the community across all disciplines with impactful programming supported by superior project management and backend capabilities.

By 2030, the University's goal is for all students to be aware of entrepreneurial thinking and 50% of the student population to have been involved in innovation experiences at some stage during their programs.


The Manager, Partnerships and Engagement creates connections between faculty, students, staff, and community partners to enrich and expand experiential learning opportunities offered by the Hunter Hub.

This position will be in a fast-moving, innovative environment with a high volume of visible, complex work.

There will be competing demands based on multiple deadlines and the incumbent must communicate regularly with many stakeholders and deliver work with a high degree of professionalism and judgment.


Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):


Partnership Management and Engagement:


  • Provide quality leadership by developing, maintaining, and modeling positive working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and community stakeholders including government partners, postsecondary institutions, and ventures.
  • Demonstrate leadership in developing and securing new sources of funding to support the activities of the Talent team at the Hunter Hub.
  • Manage a small team of community engagement and/or talent specialists.
  • Direct, motivate, and manage the activities of staff including recruitment and hiring, development of annual work plans, and ongoing performance management
Facilitate cross-functional working relationships to support the Hunter Hub's programming priorities and mandate

  • Identify opportunities to build strong relationships with internal and external networks; communicate professionally with partners, faculty, staff, administrators across the academic community, and students.
  • Drive the community engagement efforts for the Talent portfolio through front line engagement with students, faculty, staff, University leadership, and community stakeholders in a personable and professional manner.

Strategic Planning and Communications:


  • Support strategic planning for regular programming (e.g., Hunter Hub Solutions Lab, Experience Ventures National Hackathon) and other community initiatives (e.g., Entrepreneurial Thinking Week, Tech Fest) to advance the Experience Ventures network.
  • Responsible for stakeholder/partner communications, identification, and relationship management to advance Experience Ventures and strategic objectives.
  • Key liaison with government funders and for preparing quarterly reports to submit to funders based on the input from all partner organizations.

Programming and Event Management:


  • Develop, enhance and report on programs, campaigns, and events related to early Talent development, entrepreneurial thinking, and innovation to enhance the impact, reach, and reputation of the University of Calgary.
  • Oversee Talent program delivery supported by a small team(selecting, hiring, and managing presenters, speakers, facilitators, mentors, suppliers, vendors, and contract staff).
  • Manage the Talent team's partnership contracts and vendor procurement process for programming and ensure smooth delivery of all agreed deliverables and activities.
  • Improve and enhance Talent programming and event processes and practices to ensure the smooth, efficient, and effective operations of the programming team.
  • Align the Hunter Hub Talent strategy to the database strategy and ensuring the Hunter Hub team is collecting metrics and content for reporting to government funders and other stakeholders.

Qualifications / Requirements:


  • Master's degree in a related field (preferably business, education or management) is strongly preferred. Undergrad
