Ambulatory Medicine and Surgical Services at LHSC provides comprehensive, high quality, patient and family centered interdisciplinary care across the care continuum.

The services based at University Hospital and some regional partner hospitals support approximately 81,000 visits and procedures annually, both virtually and face to face.


The Medicine and Family Medicine Program at London Health Sciences Centre includes two primary care centres, the Byron and Victoria Family Medical Centres.

The centres serve over 15, 000 patients and families in the region and conduct approximately 40, 000 visits annually.

The primary care centres also work closely with partners at the Thames Valley Family Health Team to provide patient's with multi-disciplinary care.


The University Hospital Ambulatory Services includes several local and regional programs serving patients within the Ontario Health West region, from Windsor to Owen Sound.

These include the Regional Musculoskeletal Program and the Regional Bundled Care Program.


Job Summary:


What the Role Is


Reporting to the Director of Medicine and Surgical Ambulatory Services, the Manager directs, controls and evaluates the delivery of department services.

They are responsible for translating decisions of the program leadership into execution, by utilizing relationship management and working with internal and external stakeholders to achieve the necessary outcomes.

The Manager ensures their team and department operations are aligned with our mission, vision and values, while working together to successfully achieve our strategic objectives.


This role is accountable for day-to-day department activities, including the management of human and material resources, day-to-day staffing and scheduling, development and support of a healthy workplace, risk and utilization measurements, and facilitation of improvement initiatives and change management, while operating within approved operational budgets and financial guidelines and controls.

A major focus of the role is fostering effective working relationships and networks within the team/unit and with other teams across the organization as well as meeting and maintaining accreditation status across all ambulatory programs.

The Manager, Family Medicine will work closely with partners in primary care, ITS/Virtual care, and population health management.


In addition, the Manager will collaborate in completing a current state ambulatory assessment and planning for the redesign of ambulatory care at LHSC.

This will include developing ambulatory care principles and a governance framework, working closely with the Ambulatory Managers across LHSC, and leading change management across teams.

The goal is to transform the way Team LHSC delivers ambulatory care to better meet the needs of every individual in our healthcare system.
