SUMMER STUDENT POSTING


The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for a Geographic Information System (GIS) summer student in the Information, Technology & Transformation division.

This student opportunity is for a period from May 1, 2023, to September 1, 2023.

Job description


The GIS Student will support the work of the Geographic Information Systems team in the municipality; will utilize advanced tools in ArcGIS in order to perform cartographic, analytical, and administrative GIS work.

The student must have strong customer service skills as they will be assisting multiple departments with data analytics and reporting requirements.

Essential responsibilities

Demonstrate Chatham-Kent's core values and competencies

Respond to client requests regarding the use of GIS technology

Consult with business experts to document metadata for GIS data

Use GIS editing tools to create and maintain municipal spatial and attribute data

Essential qualifications

Currently be enrolled in a community college diploma (or certificate) or university degree program in a GIS program

Demonstrated competency in expressing information through analysis and mapping to individuals or groups taking into account the audience and the nature of the information

Knowledge of principles and practices of GIS, databases and cartography

Ability to work independently

Work environment/hours of work

This position works mostly indoors

This position works weekday hours
