NOTE TO ALL APPLICANTS:

OCDSB 2023 SUMMER SCHOOL WILL BE OFFERED THROUGH eLEARNING (asynchronous delivery via the OCDSB Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) AND VIRTUAL LEARNING (synchronous/ asynchronous delivery via Google Classroom/Google Meets) and IN PERSON (synchronous delivery).

With the exception of teachers delivering asynchronous eLearning courses, all teachers are expected to work from a designated summer school site regardless of whether teaching in person or virtually unless they have accommodations organized through HR Services/Employee Wellness.

IMPORTANT:

The dates for the summer programs are as follows, note that programs have different start and end times

Reach Ahead Credit (Synchronous and In Person):Wednesday, July 5 to Thursday, July 27, 2023

eLearning (Asynchronous):Tuesday, July 4 to Tuesday, August 1, 2023

Single Credit Coop (Synchronous and In Person):Tuesday, July 4 to Wednesday, July 26, 2023

Double Credit Coop:
(Synchronous and In Person) Tuesday, July 4 to Friday, August 18, 2023

Credit Recovery:
(Synchronous)** Wednesday, July 5 to Thursday, July 27, 2023 (half days)

Please note, as per the most recent collective agreement, Article 40.02 c, in the event that the Employer cancels two (2) or more days/evenings of Continuing Education courses as a result of unforeseen circumstances beyond its control, Continuing Education teachers will be required to attend and teach a makeup day. For the 2023 Summer School session, the replacement dates will be held on the following school day.

Staffing Timelines

Staffing timelines for Summer School become more and more constrained as we edge closer to the end of June. In fact, last minute hiring may occur over the last week of June, up to early July. Initial offers of work for Coop begin at the end of May in order to expedite the program. Other program offers of work will begin no earlier than Monday, May 29, 2023.

Staff Meetings and Professional Development

Each program will have a mandatory paid virtual Staff Meeting (1 hour) on the day prior to the start of the summer school program (July 3rd or 4th), with the exception of the COOP program. The staff meeting for COOP will be on May 31st at 440 Albert Street. The time for the meeting will be included in the offer as well as details related to any paid professional development opportunities.

All offers of employment will be conditional upon the program running in the summer of 202- Teachers who are not currently OCDSB employees will be required to submit a valid police records check for the vulnerable sector, acceptable to the OCDSB and less than 6 months old, prior to their first day of work.

Course List (based on enrollment): CGC1DT, CHC2DT, ENG2DT, CHV2OT/GLC2OT, CHV2O6/GLC2O6 (French Immersion), NBE3UT, ENG4UT, MHF4UT. eLearning courses will be taught in the OCDSB VLE. Teachers will be provided with digital content for each course.
